joshp
Hi all, I have a quick question... I hope. I recently had a drive display this message "Device is disabled, contents emulated", and I found this post letting me know I was a Ninny for trying trying the old restart to fix it trick.... Alas, following that post, I rebuilt the drive back into the array and am posting a copy of the SMART diagnostics here to see if anyone sees any warning signs of failure? (also to note, the server was in a hot closet for awhile, out now, so I'm wondering if that caused some bit errors...) Any help much appreciated! trurl
SMART looks OK. Diagnostics might tell us more. Quote Link to comment
joshp
@trurl, I can post the zip, is there any sensitive information I should remove? Quote Link to comment
trurl
There is a checkbox to anonymize the diagnostics. You can examine the diagnostics yourself since they are just text files. In fact, I encourage everyone to take a look at their diagnostics. Quote Link to comment
joshp
Ahhh makes sense, it was already checked when I exported. I was looking through the diagnostics and and didn't see any personal information, but there were a lot of files and I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything Anyways, here's the diagnostics, appreciate any input! tower-diagnostics-20200731-2004.zip Quote Link to comment
trurl
Lots of errors in syslog from this device: Jul 31 13:04:02 Tower kernel: sr 10:0:0:0: [sr0] tag#5 UNKNOWN(0x2003) Result: hostbyte=0x00 driverbyte=0x08 Jul 31 13:04:02 Tower kernel: sr 10:0:0:0: [sr0] tag#5 Sense Key : 0x5 [current] Jul 31 13:04:02 Tower kernel: sr 10:0:0:0: [sr0] tag#5 ASC=0x64 ASCQ=0x0 Jul 31 13:04:02 Tower kernel: sr 10:0:0:0: [sr0] tag#5 CDB: opcode=0x28 28 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 01 00 Jul 31 13:04:02 Tower kernel: print_req_error: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 4 Any idea what that's about? I don't think it is a disk. SMART for disk2 looks OK, but it is showing as still disabled in those diagnostics. They are a few days old though. You said you rebuilt? Also those diagnostics are with the array not started, so there are some things they don't tell us, but nothing related to your question. Quote Link to comment
joshp
I'm unsure what that device is honestly, how would I figure that out? Also, it seems the disk went down again and I didn't reboot. Do you mind taking a look at the new logs @trurl?I think the only non-stock part I have in this is a PCI ATA controller for some of the disks (not enough sata ports on the mobo) tower-diagnostics-20200807-2209.zip Edited August 7, 2020 by joshp Quote Link to comment
trurl
43 minutes ago, joshp said: I'm unsure what that device is honestly, how would I figure that out? Google seems to suggest it is DVD. 45 minutes ago, joshp said: the disk went down again SMART for disk2 is missing in those diagnostics and syslog suggests connection issue. Emulated disk is mounted though so would expect rebuild to be OK if you fix your connection issue. Looks like you have Marvell controller. Lots of reports of problems with those on Linux. But some people have success with those if they disable IOMMU in BIOS. Do you have any VMs that require passthru? Why have you given 100G to docker.img? 20G should be more than enough and if you fill that you have some application misconfigured. Quote Link to comment
