August 8, 20205 yr Just curious if i I should be adding hdd serial numbers on the outside of the case on each removable hdd slot so I have a better way to track where the hard drives are ? What is the best way for a 24 bay hdd array ? Thanks
August 8, 20205 yr You obviously need something, right. You wouldn't want to remove 24 drives to find the bad one. So depending how your drives are laid out and what you have for area to see each of them -- you could use a label maker to stick an identifier to each drive or cage.. may or may not work. That's very fancy, anything sticky that you can write on would work too. Or you could simply draw a diagram of the drives on paper with the identifier for each drive. Within Unraid you could then use Server Layout and/or Disk Location to keep/have/show/display an overview of your drives, not necessarily in physical order but on your diagram if you have drives numbered 1-24 with their serial numbers, you can easily know that drive 14 is the 4th disk on the 3rd row, or whatever. Here's a preview for Server Layout And for Disk Location They both provide a bunch of info the disks and let you add notes (install date, etc). Edited August 8, 20205 yr by Energen
