How do you setup your server case by labeling the outside of the case?

You obviously need something, right.  You wouldn't want to remove 24 drives to find the bad one.

 

So depending how your drives are laid out and what you have for area to see each of them -- you could use a label maker to stick an identifier to each drive or cage.. may or may not work.  That's very fancy, anything sticky that you can write on would work too.

 

Or you could simply draw a diagram of the drives on paper with the identifier for each drive.  

 

Within Unraid you could then use Server Layout and/or Disk Location to keep/have/show/display an overview of your drives, not necessarily in physical order but on your diagram if you have drives numbered 1-24 with their serial numbers, you can easily know that drive 14 is the 4th disk on the 3rd row, or whatever.

They both provide a bunch of info the disks and let you add notes (install date, etc).
