August 17, 20205 yr Hello everyone, after I have learned a little bit about unRaid I would like to build a small server which serves as data storage (Windows & Mac users), media server (Emby, MediaMonkey UPnP music server) and smarthome central (home assistant). On the server the required services should run as a Docker Container and/or in a Windows VM. The Windows VM should be operated via remote desktop. A monitor should not be connected. Some hardware performance should be available for further use. As hard disks 3x 4TB (2x Seagate Iron Wolf 1x WD Digital Red) should be used, which I already have. But I can't get any further with the rest of the hardware. I do not know whether I should assemble an Intel or AMD system? Of course the power consumption is important to me. Since the system is supposed to run 24/7 I want to use the most efficient hardware possible. Currently I am tending between an AMD Ryzen 3 3200G or Intel Core i3 9100 system. Can you give me a recommendation in my case? Are there any restrictions on using an AMD system with unRaid or with Intel? I look forward to your answers.

Looks like some of your use case is similar to what I have my unRaid box for. First you want to have 2 servers running unRaid? Is there a reason you don't want all on one? Or did I just miss read what you are saying. I went from about 3 or 4 systems running down to 1 with the proper hardware. But I was not using many dockers before I moved over to unRaid. 5 hours ago, Pixelpaule said: But I can't get any further with the rest of the hardware. I've used both AMD and Intel and at the end of the day there are some minor issues you might have to deal with if you go AMD. Right now there is a bug in the 6.9.x BETAs around AMD CPUS and VMs but there is a workaround to get things to work, but it should be corrected before they go release. I went with an AMD 3900x and was able to include a gaming VM to replace an AMD 2600x gaming system in the process. I use this to stream games to lower power systems in the house as well as over the internet. For me going AMD is easy, they unusually offer more cores for the same price. To get the same number of cores I did (12 cores 24 threads) I'd have to have looked at a Xeon and it would have been double what I paid for the CPU, maybe more. August 17, 20205 yr Author Hey, I think you misunderstood me or I misspoke. Of course, it could also be my bad English ... I only want to run one unRaid server. Currently unRaid is running on my gaming hardware, because I want to get familiar with unRaid first. It’s an Intel Core i5 8400, a MSI Motherboard with 16GB RAM and an AMD RX580. But the system is using too much power for me. The server should be equipped so that a WindowsVM, HassIO and parallel a few applications in Docker can run. It is also important to me that the hardware does not consume much power. The system should run 24/7.
