Significant server upgrade...

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm a recent Synology convert and loving unRaid. I am using a low spec server at present and plan to upgrade in November.

My current system is;

J4105B-ITX @ 1.50GHz,
8gb RAM,
Nvidia GTX 760,
2 x 10TB HDD'S.

I have several Dockers running, SabnzbdVPN, Sonarr, Radarr, Pi-hole, Emby etc. Overall things run relatively smoothly, however my cpu is consistently pegged at over 60% when playing just one movie and will buffer more often than not.

Ultimately I want my new server to set me up for the next couple of years and predominantly perform as an Emby server for several streams and a gaming setup via a Win10 VM. As such I have whittled my selection down to the following;

i9-10900k,
MSI MEG Z490 Godlike motherboard,
1600w Corsair PSU,
2TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus M.2,
NVIDIA Quadro P4000 (solely for Emby transcoding),
NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super (for Windows10 / gaming).
128gb G.Skill Trident Z Royal RAM,
Fractal Design Define 7 XL case (will give me plenty of upgrade space).

This will be a considerable investment for me and so I wanted to ask for opinion before I take the leap. At first glance, the new rig might seem like overkill however I want to ensure that I'm set for the next few years and most importantly, my Emby playback is second to none.

Any ideas, suggestions, feedback, additions would be much appreciated.
