August 19, 20205 yr Hello there, I‘m new to unraid and still in extended trial time. I like unraid a lot but I don‘t understand the most things First of all and the main buy it or leave it is IPv6. I only have IPv6 to communicate from outside to inside. 1. why do I get a new IPv6 on every boot up? (before it was a Windows 10 PC and there the IPv6 stays the same)....I’m behind a AVM Fritzbox. 2. I need to get the IPv6 to my plex docker. These are my most important problems I need to get fixed in the next two weeks. I hope somebody can help me. I would like to buy unraid, stay with unraid and learn using it for all the interesting stuff. Regards Edited August 20, 20205 yr by Schicksal
August 19, 20205 yr Community Expert Attach the diagnostics file to your next post. Tools >>> Diagnostics If you want a Static IP address, rather than using your router's DHCP. On the Unraid side of the setup, go to Settings >>> Network Settings Let me caution you. If you go the route of a Static address, you will have to enter that address into a table on the router so that it does not assign that address to another device using DHCP. Most routers (that I am familiar with) generally reserve the DHCP addresses for a fixed period of time. That way, if you turn off a device, it will probably get the same IP address the next time it starts up. You might want to have a look at that and see what the time is for your router.
August 19, 20205 yr Author A static IPv4 comes from my Fritzbox. I gave this MAC Adress a static IPv4. But I don't know how to do this with a IPv6 (external 2a00:......) The system before (on this hardware) stays nearly "for ever" with the same external IPv6. I thought perhaps i need to do any settings to the unraid system. I'm still at the beginning of using unraid. tower-diagnostics-20200819-1853.zip
August 19, 20205 yr Community Expert I am afraid that I can not be much help here. My ISP provider is (from my standpoint) only an IPv4 provider. I know that the IPv4 addresses can be converted to IPv6 addresses but I am not sure this really relates to a IPv6 only address space. @bonienl, I am hoping you might be able to provide some insight/assistance here.
August 19, 20205 yr Author I need to turn of the privacy extension of the IPv6 or find out how to make the second half static in the AVM Fritzbox. The first half is a prefix of the provider.
August 19, 20205 yr Pretty much that's what's to be expected from IPv6 unless you're using your own DHCPv6 setup with static mappings based on static Client DUID. Also from what I've seen on WinOS, you have multiple IPV6 addresses, where it uses handful of temporary IPv6 addresses, nearly one unique one per connection between client and server for security.
August 20, 20205 yr Author That’s correct for security and privacy but I would like to have a static ipv6 on this machine. It‘s a must have for me. I‘m googling the whole www and I cannot find how to do that. Only Threads that it is possible.
August 20, 20205 yr Community Expert Might I make a suggestion? Edit your first post in this thread and add to the title/subject the phase-- Need Static IPV6 Address.
August 20, 20205 yr Author Ok, you're right. Didn't know how to describe my problem in one sentence. ———edit———- Would it be easier and possible to use DuckDNS? All I want in first place ist to have connection to Plex from external. -----------edit2----------- step 1 accomplished stop docker stop vm settings -> network settings -> IPv6 address assignment: static (i let the IP like it was given, should be OK?) IPv6 privacy extension: disabled IPv6 DNS server assignment: static (i let the IP like it was given, should be OK?) tadahhhh....reboot.....same IPv6 now step 2: how do i get this IPv6 to the Plex Docker so i can reach it from external? The Plex Dockers network is set to host. Is this wrong? —————-edit3————Am I thinking completely wrong because I just learning very slowly how unraid works? My thoughts:My goal is to have external access to my Plex Server (Docker).I‘ve read in this https://forums.unraid.net/topic/57853-ip-address-assignment-to-docker-containers/ thread that it is possible to assign a MAC address to a dock container. Is the result that this container always get the same IPv6? So my unraid Server don‘t even need a static IPv6?So the goal and title need to be changed to „need a static global IPv6 an a docker container“? Edited August 20, 20205 yr by Schicksal
