Restart dns

Featured Replies

Had one name server configured, cannot get to it (provider issue).

Added a second name server in /boot/config/network.cfg, need to restart name services so it will start looking for second server.

How to restart dns from the command prompt?

Thanks.

First, read this:

I am going to assume that you  have given permission to all of one of your Unraid servers to become the Local Master.   Settings   >>>   SMB   >>>    Workgroup Setting  'Local master:' = 'Yes'.    Then read the Quote in this post:

If you want even more info on how SMB (which MS controls) works, read this from Microsoft:

      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2003/cc737661(v=ws.10)?redirectedfrom=MSDN

Particularly read the section on "Registration and Propagation".  The timing might surprise you!  This is why, it is so important to have a single Local Master on a SMB network.  Ideally, you want that server to be on 24-7.  I suspect that clients store the address of the last Local master and will check that first when SMB starts.  This single local master scheme generally reduces the instances of 'missing' servers.

One more thing.  With Windows, a computer can be both a client and a server simultaneously!  All you have to do is share a folder and it becomes a server!
