January 15, 201115 yr Thx i have not installed anything, just the unRAID program ( 6-7 months ago) i need to install something to be able to download applications to unRAID ? Yes. it is an enhanced web-interface to let you install and use many add-ons, including the printer interface. It is unMENU, and installation instructions can be found here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=5568.0 It installs in an "unmenu" directory you create on your flash drive. The printer driver will actually be downloaded, configured, and compiled on your server by you pressing a few buttons on the package manager. One click to download the compiler. One click to install the compiler One click to download the printer driver One click to edit the config of the printer driver to point it to your port (the config assumes lp0, you'll probably want usb0, but that depends on your motherboard and how the port is identified by linux) One more click to save the edited configuration. One click to compile and install the printer driver. One last click to ask the printer driver be re-installed every time you reboot the server. Joe L.
January 16, 201115 yr Author So i download the unmenu program make a directory on the flash stick named /boot/unmenu i unzip and move the downloaded unmenu to the new folder Then i install the unmenu typing this unmenu_install -i -d /boot/unmenu Then i reboot and does it then start up in unmenu or do i have to login as Root (cant remember default password for root) or is it not nessesary to reboot ? Does this unmenu change ANYthing on my normal installation ?? and, do i HAVE to "Run" unmenu to be able to use the printer or can i just run the unraid program as usal
January 16, 201115 yr unMENU adds a new web interface. unMENU appears at http://tower:8080 You go there with your browser and then you can click the package manager on the top left. In there is a spot to pick and install the printserver. Joe woud have to tell you if it starts when you install it or if you have to reboot. I suspect you do though. The password for root should be blank unless you change it so you just login as root and it won't even ask for a password. Peter
January 17, 201115 yr Author OK i have now installed the unmenu, the compiler and the driver. if i look in my syslog, i can see when i plug my printer in the usbport, this is whats in the log Jan 17 13:44:04 Tower kernel: usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 (Drive related) Jan 17 13:44:04 Tower kernel: usb 1-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice (Drive related) Jan 17 13:44:04 Tower kernel: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 2 if 1 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x043D pid 0x013F (Drive related) Jan 17 13:44:04 Tower kernel: scsi8 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices (Drive related) Jan 17 13:44:04 Tower kernel: usb-storage: device found at 2 (Drive related) Jan 17 13:44:04 Tower kernel: usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning (Drive related) Jan 17 13:44:04 Tower kernel: generic-usb 0003:043D:013F.0010: hiddev96,hidraw0: USB HID v1.00 Device [Lexmark 5600-6600 Series] on usb-0000:00:04.1-2/input3 (Drive related) Jan 17 13:44:09 Tower kernel: scsi 8:0:0:0: Direct-Access Lexmark USB Mass Storage 200 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0 (Drive related)Jan 17 13:44:09 Tower kernel: usb-storage: device scan complete (Drive related) but if i try to add the printer to my win7 pc, i cant see the printer. how do i add the printer as network printer to windows Pc's ?? AND Can i read out from the syslog what usbport the printer is connectet to ?? , is changed the lp0 to usb0, but not sure if thats correct thx alot for the help so far
January 17, 201115 yr Should Be: Start Control Panel Devices and Printers Add a printer (on the top bar) - This will fire up the wizard Add a network, wireless or bluetooth printer - This wil then scan the network and you carry on from there once it's located
January 17, 201115 yr Author Carpet3 .... The problem is that when i do that, the printer DONT show up. And if i try to manualy type the address for the printer then i cant see it either (dont know what to look for in Linux, but i guess something with Lexmark would do it )
January 19, 201115 yr Author hmm ok ... hmm , is there another way to be able to see the printer on a machine that runs unRAID from a window7 machine. i cant add something i cant see in windows.

That is not how the printer driver in unMENU works. It does not install a printer and advertise it on the LAN. It installs a network port that connects directly to a USB or PARALLEL port on your unRAID server. To use it, I think you must install a printer driver for your specific model printer on your Windows7 PC. Then in its configuration you specify the network port rather than a local device. I do not have a windows 7 machine here, but the instructions for Windows XP are: Windows XP * Find your printer in Control Panel - Printers etc. and open the properties page for it. * Select the Ports tab. * Click Add Port and choose Standard TCP/IP printer port and click New Port * Enter you server's IP address (normally something like 192.168.1.10) and click Next * Set Device type to custom and click settings. * Make sure RAW is selected and specify the necessary port number (normally 9100, 9101 for second printer, etc) and click OK * Click Next and Finish and Close * Make sure the newly created port is selected for your printer and click OK It should be similar on your PC.
