Can external drive be NTFS?

All of my array/parity is XFS.  I have a 6Tb hdd in a external enclosure I'd like to use to move data from Windows to Unraid.

 

Currently its showing up in Unraid as a unassigned device formatted ntfs. Should I reformat it to something else?

    If it is not part of the array then it is perfectly acceptable to have a NTFS drive managed by the Unassigned Devices plugin.   This is one of the standard Use Cases where you want to be able to easily transfer files to/from Windows systems.
