How upgrade a PCIe x4 NVMe M.2 Cache pool?

Featured Replies

I need to upgrade my cache pool (BTRFS) that consists of:

2x Lycom DT-120 PCIe x4 M.2 Adapter

2x Samsung 970 EVO 250GB M.2

1.) Is it as easy as stop server, replace first M.2 SSD, start server, set new SSD in cache slot, start array and let cache sync. After successful completion repeat that for second SSD?

2.) What about running Dockers and VMs on that cache pool? Should I keep them stopped til successful upgrade or is it ok to start Dockers and VMs during cache pool sync?

The amount of data to sync is 250 GB mostly Plex and it's millions of files.

Thanks in advance.

See here if you can have both old and new devices connect at the same time, you can have the pool online during the replacements.

Ah, thanks. No way to have old and new devices connected. Will disable VMs and Dockers during the replacements.

Assuming the pool is raid1 you could remove one of the old devices first, then add the new one, then repeat.
