[SOLVED] Network connectivity loss with Unraid

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. Need your assistance please!

I've built a NAS and having trouble keeping the network connection on it.

System:

Mobo - Asus Tuf Gaming X570

CPU: Ryzen 3400G

Ram: 4x8g 3200mhz Corsair Vengeance

Running latest Unraid 6.8.3 version.

I had the unraid and array set up at first. I had an issue with server clock not syncing, but I got that fixed and got my trial key.

However I needed to get back in my case to rework the fans and in doing so I likely mixed up the HDD drives to their ports when re-installing. I also picked up a cat6 cable since I had a temporary cat5 I used just get things started.

When I put everything back together and restarted unraid, it didn't want to connect to my network. I tried troubleshooting but I ended up deciding to start over from scratch since this is a new machine and had no data saved on it. I reflashed the USB stick and started over. The PC still refused to connect.

I can tell the ethernet cable is good as I can see packets being transmitted on the line. I've also reused my temporary cat5e cable and the ethernet socket light will light up as well.

Any help would be appreciated!! Thank you.

You use domain name or ip to access ? From syslog it show eth0 in normal with IP address 192.168.1.232

Next you should check why speed only 100Mbps.

I had given the array a name, but that was before I reflashed the USB stick. The fresh install has not been named yet. The 192.168.1.232 was what the original install had before I reflashed it. I just attempted to set the new install to that same IP.

Try access by IP address and confirm the access PC in same IP subnet.

Also simple try ping Unraid IP address and post the result.

Hello Benson,

I made a mistake in my prior response. I did give the new install a name. Same as old version. I attempted to access via domain name and IP address showing in Unraid but no luck.

my other PC is connected to the same router so its in the same subnet.

I'm in GUI mode and the network settings continues to say Interface Ethernet Port 0 is down. Check cable. However I've double/triple checked it. It's connected.

Another thing that is strange is that the system time being shown keeps changing. I've had to reset the clock in the bios a couple of times and although I don't change the timezone in Unraid, the time in unraid shows something wildly different.

Also I just went into the bios again to find some of my settings had changed. I had disabled all HDD boot options so this machine would only boot from the USB and to take those options off the table. The last time I loaded, the HDDs were back as boot options.

So, pls follow on this, as in 1st reply say, it also abnormal why the speed was 100Mbps only. Pls try another cable ( how long ? CAT5 already enough in most case ) also try different router port.

There also common problems of RJ45 connector bad connect to cable.

Hey Benson.

So...I did try my original CAT5 cable. Its working. Instant connection.

What's strange is that this CAT6 cable is brand new, bought 48 hours ago. I connected it to another device and it was recognized and connected as well.

I'm not using a NIC card, just the ethernet port on the mobo for now.

Forgive my noob-ness but where can I find the port connection speed in Unraid?

In GUI main page left bottom will show the port speed.

The new CAT6 cable have quality problem.

Ah, thank you. Its at 1Gbps, see below.

This CAT6 cable I got is a 50ft roll. I guess the cable is just bad?? or somehow not compatible with my motherboard?

Unraid use UTC, so BIOS must UTC too, then set correct timmezone in Unraid.

Setting have save before exit BIOS ? Does Unraid USB ( legacy / UEFI ) already set in 1st boot device ?

I don't think so.

Ah, Thanks for the Timezone tip. I'll correct the time.

Regarding the BIOS, I still have the USB as the first boot priority and there's nothing on the HDD. There's no problem in booting unraid on start-up. Its just a little concerning the mobo keeps changing settings on me.
