Booting Unraid for the first time

Featured Replies

So I thought that I would level up my NAS situation...

I have a spare computer I thought that I would use for UNRAID. I set it up and successfully booted Ubuntu from a USB to make sure that things would go smoothly. Looking at the UNRAID site they seem to want me to download there own usb flash creator. I did this and created the USB sticks multiple times on 3 different sticks. Every time I get the message:

" Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"

I have tried other linux distros on usb sticks with this system and have no problem. Any ideas why UNRAID wont boot?

You can try disable uefi boot in your bios.

You can also try to simply copy the files to the USB and then run the "create bootable" bat file from the root of your flash drive.

I am assuming that you are using the short instructions found on this page:

On that page is this quote:

and opt for EFI booting if you prefer.

Do you remember which option you choose?   And there is the possibility that your MB's BIOS will only allow an EFI boot.   And if the MB is old enough, it might even 'know' what an EFI boot is!  You may want to try creating a boot drive using the other EFI option.  If you are still having issues be sure to read your MB BIOS manual as some MB's have several EFI and non-EFI  boot settings and these usually including one that will boot using either.  Eventually, you will find some combination that will work.
