Ive been using unraid for almost a year now but i want to upgrade the storage for my virtual machines as of right now they are running of a hard drive on the array.

 

Due to budget constraints i can only afford 1 ssd for now but i wan to run dual nvme ssds for redundancy so my question is simple can i install 1 ssd now and then add another one later when i can afford a second.

Yes, as long as current one is formatted with btrfs (default).

So does this mean that if its formatted as btrfs I dont have to move the data off the ssd once i add the second cache drive
