External drive failed, mount folder now has unremoveable files

Featured Replies

Hi, I've been running Unraid 6.9.0-beta25 a few weeks without issues but today something went wrong.

I had an external SSD drive connected via USB and mounted with Unassigned Devices. During an rsync operation, copying files from the drive, the drive failed somehow. Perhaps it overheated, I don't know. It refused to mount again, even after a reboot, so I deleted the partition on it and created a new one. This seems to work but I'm not going to use that drive anymore.

Here's the issue. When the drive is not mounted, the mount folder /mnt/disks/SanDisk_Ext_SSD/ contains files which I can't remove. When I list the contents they look like this:

root@Nullianac:/mnt/disks# ls -al SanDisk_Ext_SSD
/bin/ls: cannot access 'SanDisk_Ext_SSD/roon': Input/output error
total 16
drwxrwxrwx 1 nobody users 28 Sep 6 14:19 ./
drwxrwxrwt 8 nobody users 160 Sep 6 15:48 ../
drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 Sep 5 13:32 nzbget/
drwxrwxrwx 1 nobody users 14 Sep 6 13:17 plex/
d????????? ? ? ? ? ? roon/

When I try removing for instance the nzbget folder, I get the message "rm: cannot remove 'SanDisk_Ext_SSD/nzbget/intermediate': Read-only file system"

What is going on? Is the file system corrupted? I don't even know where to start looking for a way to fix it.

Btw, the rest of the system works normally, and when I mount the external drive it also seems to work fine.

//Edit: Removing the drive and rebooting seems to have solved the problem. The SanDisk_Ext_SSD folder is gone from /mnt/disks/ and I see no errors in dmesg. I think I'm good. If anyone has any suggestions for anything else I should check, feel free.
