[SOLVED] WD disks not showing (6.8.3)

Featured Replies

Trying to move my unRaid from my old HP Z220 box to a new Rosewill AMD Ryzen 3900 box with gigabyte x570 aorus master motherboard. This has 6 SATA ports onboard.

When I move to the new box, I cannot for the life of me get either of the 8TB Western Digital drives to show in the bios nor in unRaid. I tried using the SATA cables from the old box, tried new cables, even tried the cables from the working drives on the WD drives, no dice/cant get them to show up.

I have a LSI SAS2008 PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS-2 card that I've tried plugging these drives into 2 of the 3 ports to see if that might work, but no joy there either.

So I'm at a loss as to what to try next and would really appreciate some input from the community.

Screenshot from before the move below fyi. Disk 2 and Disk 4 are the problem drives not showing up.

Let me know what/if you need anymore info. Thanks

Those WD are regular drives from a store or shucked from an USB enclosure ?

If so, it might be that your old case or PSU did not provide 3.3V and the new system does and your drive are disabled.

The solution is to prevent the drive to recieve the 3.3V by applying Kapton tape.

Plenty of tutorials for this on the web.

Ahhhh haaaaa. Yes these drivers were shucked from USB enclosures, So that’s highly likely.

thanks, I’ll try applying some Kapton tape and report back.
