[solved] Rack mount ups, what one for 20 drive beast?

Featured Replies

What rack mount ups would you buy to support 20 hard drives?  My server is like the 20 drive beast, I just don't have 20 drives in it yet. I am looking to get one eBay.

Would this be fine.          670 Watts / 1000 VA

Or should I go with         980 Watts / 1440 VA

Or something in between?

My system spec are in my sig, I do plan on upgrading my CPU very soon to a 2.5 quad

What kind of drives are you running? Green or others? Of course its the only thing I didn't see in your sig so I could pick on you a little.  ;D

2 green and 4 non green,  all future drives will be green and I plan on replacing the non green drives this year.

The question should really be "how long do you want the server to stay up without mains power"

Maybe 5 to 10 minutes at most then have it start the shutdown process.

I bought a second hand one with new batteries a SC 1500VA and I get approx 80 min run time on 6 green drives at the moment so I would say for 5 -10 min either would be fine.

yeah that first one is mine, may be slightly different plugs as mine is australian but about that price. I don't have a kill-a-watt on mine but it seems to be about the same size as yours, only smaller psu, 450W corsair from memory.
