Sh0dan
Made sure everything was up to date prior to shutting down server and swapping old phenom II processor for ryzen 3600 & ROG Strix X570-E. New system POSTs fine, and detects USB as a boot drive; however when selecting to boot from USB, the BIOS just won't do it. Always goes back to the BIOS menu screen. In the process of troubleshooting by trying to boot into Ubuntu on a different flash drive to try to see if it is the flash drive or the new hardware. Any suggestions as I proceed? Thanks :) Quote Link to comment
ChatNoir
What version of unraid are you running on the USB ? Did you play around with the boot option EFI vs Legacy for USB and/or rename the EFI folder on the key. (either to "EFI" proper if different, or to something else) Edited September 12, 2020 by ChatNoir Quote Link to comment
Frank1940
Just to amplify a bit on what @ChatNoir said. Older MB often had limited (or no) EFI boot options and the default was usually for Legacy (or BIOS) booting. Newer MB generally default to EFI booting and you have to go into the BIOS and actively select it if you want to use the Legacy mode. Unraid supports both. (To manually setup your flash drive, look at the root of the flash drive drive for a folder begins with EFI If it is named EFI- it is setup for Legacy mode. If it is named EFI it is setup for EFI mode.) Edited September 12, 2020 by Frank1940 Quote Link to comment
Sh0dan
Yeah just figured it out. I guess these new motherboards only want to boot via UEFI, so i had to enable CSM (compatibility support module) on the ASUS board in order to get the option to legacy boot. I'm assuming the unraid boot drive does not support EFI booting? Running 6.8.1 I believe. 1 Quote Link to comment

Sh0dan
Thanks again now I just have to troubleshoot why the web GUI isn't coming up! The joys of upgrading hardware! Quote Link to comment
Frank1940
Login using SSH and type diagnostics That will write the diagnostics file to the logs folder/directory on the boot drive. Now power down the server by typing poweroff Then pull the boot drive out and upload the complete Diagnostics file in your next post. (I suspect that your new MB has a NIC that is not supported in Linux core in the version on Unraid that you are currently using. You are not the first person to have this issue lately!!!)
