September 27, 20205 yr Hi folks, So I have been using unraid since unraid 5 and NEVER had this issue. All of a sudden when a file is copied to the unraid share by one computer. I can't seem to access it using a different computer that has a different user. I am not sure why this is happening all of a sudden. This has never happened before. Furthermore, that folder's security is set to public. Any thoughts? On my mac the folder has a red circle with a white line through it and says "can't be opened because you don't have permission to see the contents." The same issue happens if I create a folder from my mac with one user, and then try to open the folder on a windows pc *EDIT* Okay so it seems like it is a mac/pc issue? Could that be? Because I just tried to access that same specific folder on the share using a windows 10VM and had no issues accessing that folder that was created by a different windows 10 machine. And vice versa, if I create a folder using my mac, I can't seem to access it on the physical windows 10 machine. The share settings security is set to public, so no idea? September 27, 20205 yr Author Okay I think I am getting closer. On my mac, I only seem to be able to access that folder that was created on the physical windows machine when I click on "connect as" and select that specific user that it was created from on that physical machine. Even though on unraid the security is set to public, and I have no issues accessing from a windows VM with a different user.. Edited September 27, 20205 yr by maxse
October 2, 20205 yr Author wow, really? No one here could help me out? I've never had an issue before where I did not have a single reply. Is this the wrong sub forum or is the unraid community here slowly dieing off?
November 20, 20205 yr Bumping this thread - I am encountering the same issue, but in my case it's all Macs using the same version of Mojave. If one of them creates a folder, the other cannot save to it. Read, yes, save, no. Like the Macs are, independent of UNRAID, setting some sort of user-only permissioning on the folders they create. At this time, each Mac has its own UNRAID login, but I was encountering the issue when I was logged in with the SAME ID, too. Any suggestions as to where to start? As for AFP - I hadn't realized it was so out of date. I saw it as an option and figured it might be worthwhile to use that (Hey, it's Apple, right?) but if SMB is preferred, that's an easy fix for me. I just figured I'd give it a try and see if it was any better / faster.... (I'm also not saying I got it confused with APFS, but I may have gotten it confused with APFS.) https://eclecticlight.co/2019/12/09/can-you-still-use-afp-sharing/ ^^ According to this article, it hasn't been updated in about 7 years now... https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT200160 ^^ Apple support article hasn't been updated in 4 years, called it a legacy. Fine. I'll stick to SMB and see if there's any further connectivity issues here.
