January 21, 201115 yr I wish I knew why I don't understand some of the finer points of unRAID. I read thread after thread, but somehow I think the information is mixing together and confusing me more. Someone asked for diagrams to help get min free space and user shares setup, so here I am. -Free License with two data disks and a parity (all 2gb WD) *User Shares method *Min. Free Space on Movies share is 20971520 (20gb) *Min. Free Space on TV share is 15728640 (15gb) *Movies split level is 1 *Included disk = disk1,disk2 *TV split level is 2 *Included disk = disk1,disk2 *Loveline split level is 3 *High-Water on all shares *No included disk setting for the Loveline share. I chose this because the files will not span more than one disk. Is this correct? A file size calculator I found says 20gb is 20,971,520 kilobytes. Other threads say kilobytes are the correct value to use, so I'll go with that. So after getting all of the settings to what I think is correct, I started to move a file. disk1 flew right by 20G and is now showing 17G of free space. When I just had the single drive, min free space and split level were both set to 0. I thought I had read somewhere that the values can be changed at anytime. Correct? Here is an exact representation of my directory structure. Stars Wars (and other multi-film series like it) have their own folder under the Movies share, then the respective movie files within. Besides a directory for Star Wars under Movies share, there are the single files in the Movies share; one-off films like Last of the Mohicans. Maybe this thread can help others too, if they have a similar structure. I'm not against changing to disk shares, if the reason to do so can be made clear to me and nothing bad will happen from doing so. Second picture is after all the above was setup, and I transferred one more file into Movies.
January 21, 201115 yr The drive will always fill below the free space setting. unRAID will try to use that drive until it has less than the free space setting still free. Obviously, when you started the move there was more than 20gig free so unRAID used that drive. Next time, there will be less than 20gig free so unRAID will not use that drive. Peter

What you said is exactly what happened. I thought it was like a glass; "full" is full. Thanks.
