Brand new machine and new to Unraid prob with hard drive temps

Featured Replies

I just built the system with 4 brand new WD EARS drives (with jumpers on 7/8) have caviar black as parity and WDEADS 1 tb as cache drive...

Question is I'm still running the parity sync and I see that one of the drives has reads and writes to it but the temp is 0. All the others show reads and writes but also the temperature. Does this sound like the new drive is just faulty or am I missing a configuration thing somewhere? ???

It may be defective, it may be that SMART is disabled on that disk.  It may be it is the smaller 1TB disk, and not currently spinning since the parity check is progressed beyond it.  (most disk drives will not report temperature unless spinning)

what does

hdparm -I /dev/sdX

tell you  (where sdX = the correct three character device name for your disk)?

Oh forgot to mention that the 4 EARS drives are all 2TB drives (Array) and the caviar black (parity) is also a 2 TB drive the cache drive the EADS is just a 1 TB drive
