January 22, 201115 yr Going to be running a micro-atx tower with 2x120mm fans, 1x140mm fan, Intel Core i3-550 (using the integrated graphics), 2x2GB PC1600 memory, and a maximum of 6 Samsung F4 2TB 5400rpm drives. What would be a good wattage for this setup? Don't really want to go overkill and buy more than I need, but I want to make sure that I have enough for all 6 hard drives. Any suggestions? Thanks =)
January 22, 201115 yr A good quality 400W supply would work. The Corsair 430W would be a good cheap choice. I'm running with a Corsair 400W and 6 drives. I fully expect to add at least 2 more to the current hardware (I'm set up with 8 hot-swap bays right now) and I know that supply can handle another 2 to 4 beyond the 8 I have room for. Peter
January 22, 201115 yr First of all, be sure to upgrade the firmware on all 6 of your Samsung F4 drives. See the warning link in my signature for details. Second of all, make sure you get a quality PSU with a +12Volt single rail.
January 24, 201115 yr Author Thanks for the info...I was looking at a Corsair 650 watt modular, so it sounds like that would be plenty. I will definitely make sure to update the firmware on the f4s before running them. Glad they're nor going to go to waste =)
