Fixing Duplicate Shares [SOLVED]

Featured Replies

Hello.  I tried searching for this topic but didn't find a match so please forgive is this was covered already elsewhere.

Last night I noticed most of my movies/files were not displaying in the movies share when I peruse my "movies" share from Windows explorer.

I logged onto my unraid console today at //tower/shares.htm and found that somehow MULTIPLE "movie" shares got defined there.  I may have done this recently by accident.

If I remove all but one of these duplicate shares and click "apply" will this fix the problem of my movies not showing up properly in Windows explorer?  Will it delete any of my movies or cause any other potential data loss?

Just checking before I pull the trigger.

Thank you!

Forgot to mention:  I'm using Unraid version 4.6-final

Try a reboot first.

They might be different if you used different capitalization.  MOVIES != Movies != movies

I did a reboot and a complete powerdown but the problem remains.

You are correct; one is named "movies" the other is named "Movies".

It seems like some files got copied to both folders too but 99-percent of my movies are in the "Movies" folder.

I'll move everything from "movies" over to "Movies" then remove the "movies" share.

Thanks for your help with this!

It's fixed:

  • I used midnight commander to move everything from the duplicate "movies" folder to the correct "Movies" folder.
  • Then I removed the "movies" share using the unraid shares management tool

Windows explorer now shows all of my movies as expected when I browse the network share.

Thanks again for the help!

I'd recommend you go to the disk shares and check each disk for any leftover "movies" top-level directories.

Peter
