October 15, 20205 yr Hi guys, I had an issue with my Windows VM's where USB keyboards / mice would stop working after after a while and I would have to use "Hotplug USB" to detach and reattach them to fix... temporarily. I had a good search of these forums and a Google around and it seemed like a lot of others were having the same issue back to 2016 with no fix beyond adding a PCI USB card and passing it through. However! I believe I have solved the issue... at least it has for me. I haven't seen this solution anywhere else so I hope it is helpful to some of you. Step 1 - Open Device Manager Step 2 - Expand "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" Step 3- Right click and select properties on device "USB Root Hub (USB 3.0) Step 4- Select the "Power Management" tab and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" I also have USB selective suspect disabled in power settings. Since I have done this I have had no more USB devices stop responding... I tried it on two different servers (One Intel Xeon and a Ryzen) and it fixed the issue on both. Let me know if it fixes it for you also Ryan Edited October 15, 20205 yr by shapenz

I double checked that the USB and pwr management "put to sleep" settings are disabled. But i have to use the "Hotplug" plugin to attach the Mouse and keyboard dongles (only, i don't have to detach them). I bet windows update thought changing a driver setting somewhere was a good idea, but i cant seem to find the culprit🤢
