Is it worth upgrading my CPU?

Featured Replies

I currently have a sempron 2300+ in my unraid system and it does the job fine, however i have an athlon 64 X2 4800+ which i took from a friends PC due to an upgrade which i was going to throw up on eBay.

is it worth upgrading? would i see any noticable difference?

I don't think you would see much difference with how fast unRAID serves up files. That is governed more by the speed of the I/O than the processor. I believe your current processor is more than enough to run unRAID. Even running multiple streams doesn't take much effort as far as the processor is concerned.

However, if you are running some of the user installed extras, you would see an improvement in how some of them work.

just as i expected to be honest, It runs flawlessly at the moment so did doubt any performance differences. As i am happy just now i think i will just sell the CPU, that'll give me a bit of cash for another drive :D
