Disk disabled content emulated

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Just a quick query on this. This disk seems to be causing some issues. It says disabled contents emulated.

I dont beleive there is anything wrong with the hard disk. I did a clean of the server and used a blower to get rid of the dust. I ensured all cables are secured. This started happening after the clean so I dont think there is anything wrong with the disk.

I also dont know what emulated means? There is a lot of data on the drive and I am at a loss as to what to do about this.

Emulated drive means that the data is only available by computation of data from all other drives and parity. It also means that any other issue on another drive might cause data loss. You should fix this quickly.

You should attach your diagnostics (Tools / Diagnostics) in you next post.

Disk looks healthy, the emulated disk is mounting so if contents look correct you can rebuild on top.

Good idea to update the LSI firmware since it's very old.

Thank you @JorgeB I just saw the upgrade post and I think I will really need some help with that, like a video of some sort.

Can you please explain what you mean by the emulated disk is mounting? It shows as disabled so not sure what you mean. How do I rebuild on top? SOrry I have been out of touch with unraid for a while since I have been busy with work and not had time to do anything here.

Please do point me to a step by step if you can spare a min, that would be much appreciated.

This section of the online documentation (accessed via the ‘Manual’ link at the bottom of the Unraid GUI) covers rebuilding a disk onto itself.    You may also find the preceding paragraphs to be of interest.

Thank you guys. I have started the rebuild. It will take 3 days to do it.

I now need to find out how to upgrade the LSI firmware.

I tried to search the LSI SAS3008 firmware update on the broadcom website and cannot locate it. Can anyone point me to it?

You search for the HBA model, not the chip used.

Hi guys

Just a quick update, it seems like that HDD has been disabled again. This is most bizzare. It just gets kicked out by itself.

You still didn't update the HBA, older firmwares have known issues with some newer drives, you can also swap cables with another drive to rule them out.

Yes I tried, having touble locating the drivers on the broadcom site.

Here is the hardware

IOMMU group 33:[1000:0097] 05:00.0 Serial Attached SCSI controller: Broadcom / LSI SAS3008 PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS-3 (rev 02)

Like mentioned you need the HBA model, not the chip, there's usually a sticker on the back of the HBA, e.g.:

Yes, sorry, but there is no such sticker here. This is an oboard PCI card on my ASRock D1541D4U-2T8R mobo

In that case Asrock should supply the firmware, though most likely the standard LSI firmware should also work, e.g. the one from the 9300-8i, but you should confirm with Asrock support.
