November 2, 20205 yr Been a while since my first Unraid build (7 years ago!!) which has been working fine for me till date. Kudos to the user community here for helping me out of panic mode a few times when I've had issues like unclean shutdown / parity failure etc. I'm looking to build a new system as a replacement for my existing machine. Existing specs: MB: ASRock B75 Pro3-M CPU: Celeron G1620 Memory: 4GB Drives: 5 x 3TB (1 parity) + 1 x 2TB. Total 14TB with around 2.5TB free space. Case: Silverstone Technology CS380B (with hot-swap bays) All I'm using this for is for Plex serving my media files and backup storage. No complains as of now except some of the drives are old and are showing UDMA CRC error counts and would like to upgrade to a little more CPU power/ram to be able to handle multiple transcoding streams. I wanted to build a new budget system and maybe upgrade to fewer bigger drives. A 6 SATA motherboard instead of 8 should be enough I'm thinking of the following: CPU: Intel Core i3-9100 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Processor Motherboard: ASRock B365M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory: Crucial Ballistix 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory Looking for suggestions for an alternate AMD build as well cases I can use for a 6 drive build.

Thought here is I can probably run a couple of VMs if needed inside unraid as well if I wanted to with the additional RAM / CPU power. November 30, 20205 yr Something to think about...I would go with the I5-10400 and not the "F" version. You can take advantage of the graphics processor for any trans-coding needs that way. https://www.newegg.com/intel-core-i5-10400-core-i5-10th-gen/p/N82E16819118135 Everything else you have picked should work. You may not be able to take advantage of the 3200 ram speed, so there is no advantage there, but it is inexpensive for 32 gigs and should be fine at the base clock.
November 30, 20205 yr Author Thank you! I realized after I posted my list that the 10400F didn't have onboard graphics. I will switch it with the i5-10400
