Reconnection? how long

Featured Replies

Hi folks

First question and new user. Recently set up a 3 disc array and on Saturday I mistakingly pressed the "reconnection" button. I have been trying to reconnect since then, but continually receive a "the connection has timed out message". Is this something that just takes considerable time to complete?

Where exactly are you seeing this button? Doesn't seem like anything to do with Unraid.

Post a screenshot.

What reconnection button (that is not one I am aware of)?  Maybe a screenshot might clear things up?

Unfortuately I can't get into UnRaid to take a screenshot. The button - maybe it wasn't called "reconnect", was at the foot of the "Dashboard" page, where the "stop"/"start" buttons are - coudl it have been a "reset" button - sorry for floundering.

Is this what you are talking about?

Yes it might have been reboot - crap 🤔

It should have shutdown the server and  then restarted the server.  When restart was finished, it should have allowed a reconnection to the GUI when the reboot process was finished.

What I would sugest is that you push the power button for a half second and see if the server will shutdown cleanly.  (You can then push  the power button to restart the server if that works.)  If it did not work, then push the power button for about ten seconds.  That will force an unclean shutdown.

Thanks I'll try that just shortly

Sadly neither of those suggestions worked. This is what I get

Hook up a monitor and keyboard to the server.  Look at the monitor screen and see if the IPv4 address is listed at the bottom of the screen.  (You may have to tap the   Ctrl   key to wake up the video driver.)    Use that address to try to access the GUI.

If you have a login prompt, try to login.  If successful, type  diagnostic    at the prompt.  That will write the diagnostic file to the    logs    folder/directory of the Boot Flash Drive.  Upload that file in your next post.

If none of these work, force another boot of the system (while connected with the monitor and keyboard), select the   Safe boot option from the boot menu.

If nothing looks like I have described, take a sharp clear picture of the entire monitor screen that can be read and upload it.

@Frank1940 - thanks for the advice. I realised after I posted that I should be trying to do this from a monitor/screen attached to the server - sorry. I will do that sometime later today, once I get it hooked up.

Thanks for helping out a newbie, it's appreciated.

@Frank1940 what you suggested was what was required. For some reason my system was booting incorrectly into Windows, instead of the USB drive. Once I resolved that, everything came back as hoped. Array started and I again have access to my media files - phew. Doubt I will be tinkering again in the future.

Thanks for your help.
