Psycho
Well I just had a power outage and one of my disks got disabled when the power came back on. I'm just wondering if I should simply rebuild it or replace it. I didn't have any errors with it prior to the power going out. Any and all help would be truly be appreciated. trurl
SMART attributes for disk2 look OK and it also has recently passed an extended SMART test. And emulated disk2 is mounted so it should be OK to rebuild to the same disk. Do you know how to proceed? 1 Quote Link to comment
Psycho
Yeah I found it in the wiki, thanks! Quote Link to comment
Psycho
Now when I tried rebuilding it all I get is disk 1 read errors. Disk 2 is still being emulated so now I'm stuck, how do I save most of my data? (I'd imagine that since I have 1 parity drive I will be losing some data) knight-diagnostics-20201113-1202.zip Edited November 13, 2020 by Psycho Quote Link to comment
Psycho
Just to be clear, my question is if 1 drive is emulated and another one is failing, how do I go about to swap out the failing drive with a new one without losing all the data. The emulated drive appears to be find and doesn't show any errors. Quote Link to comment
trurl
SMART for disk1 looked OK in those first diagnostics, but disk1 is not connected in those latest diagnostics. Shutdown, check all connections, power and SATA, both ends, including splitters. Reboot and post new diagnostics. Quote Link to comment

trurl
Still not getting SMART for disk1, though it looks like it's mounted. Looks like docker.img is corrupt and spamming syslog. You shouldn't have system share on the array anyway. Disable dockers in Settings then reboot and post new diagnostics. Quote Link to comment

Psycho
And I should probably ask how to fix docker.img also Quote Link to comment

Psycho
Figures, problem is I was in the process of rebuilding disk 2. This is after a fresh startup. Edited November 15, 2020 by Psycho added description Quote Link to comment
Psycho
I get errors on disk 1 after a while Quote Link to comment
trurl
The good news is all disks are mounted so you should be able to copy files off. Quote Link to comment
Psycho
Well it's not letting me, errors keep adding up on Disk 1 and files aren't copying over. So how do I go about replacing disk 1 and deal with disk 2 being emulated. I know that I will probably lose some data but how can I save some of it? trurl
Do you have a disk to replace disk1? Quote Link to comment
Psycho
I do yes, same size Quote Link to comment
trurl
I guess you could try to rebuild disk1 instead of disk2. Maybe data on physical disk2 is OK or mostly. You would replace disk1 then use the invalidslot command to tell it disk1 needs to be rebuilt. 1 Quote Link to comment
Psycho
Just my luck, with 1 hour to go on the Disk 1 rebuild with no errors, I get hit with another power outage. Now disk 2 says: Quote Unmountable: No file system Do I need to do the "Retain current configuration" step again? knight-diagnostics-20201115-1614.zip Edited November 15, 2020 by Psycho Quote Link to comment

trurl
According to diagnostics disk1 is the invalid and emulated disk now so if you restart the rebuild that is the one it should begin rebuilding. And in fact, syslog says it had already begun rebuilding disk1 but looks like you cancelled it. It will start over from the beginning. Syslog isnt showing an unclean shutdown though. Is your server on an UPS? SMART for disk2 looks OK. If you want you can try checking the filesystem on disk2 before restarting the rebuild, or you can do that after. https://wiki.unraid.net/Check_Disk_Filesystems#Checking_and_fixing_drives_in_the_webGui Quote Link to comment
Psycho
No UPS (yet)... also getting a second parity drive. You learn something new every time! Quote Link to comment
