Does the parity drive need to be connected to a motherboard hdd slot vs LSI raid controller?

I'm getting ready to replace my existing parity drive 8TB with a new 14TB and have settled on the method below that was posted on the Unraid subreddit:

  1. Shut down server
  2. Install new drive
  3. Stop the array
  4. Assign the new drive to parity slot 2
  5. Start the array and allow parity to rebuild
  6. Stop the array
  7. Unassign the old parity drive, then start the array
  8. Assign it as a data drive

However, all of my mobo HDD slots are taken so I was thinking of using a slot on my LSI SAS2008 Raid controller instead of trying to move things around.

My question is does it matter if my parity isn't connected to one of my motherboard slots? Any performance / other issues I could run into which would make moving drives around worthwhile?
