Help with permissions and moving files

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been using Krusader as my go-to for moving files around unRaid, but it seems to be messing with permissions for the files I move. For instance, if I move files/folders from Folder_X to Folder_Y, it will neither transfer the permissions from Folder_X nor inherit the permissions from Folder_Y. When I view permissions of said moved/copied files/folders, Groups and Others are set to View Only. I then have to back up and reset the permissions for the parent folder through Krusader, applying to subfolders, again.

Is there a better way to do this, say, by having Krusader simply inherit parent folder permissions? Right now it's really messing with my shares, as I'm assuming that something I've moved into my "music" share is going to have all the share users authorized, which they're not.

I should say that I'm a long time Windows Home Server user, so the granularity of Linux has elements that were handled more behind the scenes (and thus didn't require me to learn the fundamentals) with Windows.

I'm open to all advice on how to do this more easily/correctly.

Thanks in advance.

Erik

Would also like to add that I wish there were a native way to move files around unRaid.

I miss Windows Explorer.

Just sayin'

There's Midnight Commander (mc in the console).
