This step isn't required when you install my plugin since it does that on boot.

This is the wrong plugin, you have to look into the thread one of the last posts says where the dev plugin is to download.

I think there is some other issue involved here...

But glad to hear that it's working now.

I don't know what to make of it either, and agree some other issue (gremlin) lurks, but I am glad it's finally working.

I'm running a Dell 710 with a P2000, everything was working well on 6.9.0 beta 35.

due to other issues on my server I was instructed to install the rc2.

These images are current but plex will not use the GP to transcode.

is there something else that I should be doing?

No, nothing to change, can it be that you run Unraid in GUI mode, this could possible lead to problems but it shouldn't under normal circumstances.

Try to reboot without GUI mode instead.

If Plex started just fine with all the variables passed then Plex is "allowed" to use the card, try to disable and enable HW transcoding.

Which container are you using?

Container  ID :55131b6b72af

When I disable HW transcoding plex transcodes the video fine. When I turn HW transcoding on, and force transcoding, plex shuts down the video, and never restarts it transcoded.

This started immediately after upgrading to 6.9.0rc2

Please post the repositor like:, linuxserver, binhex, plexinc,...?

How do you mean that exactly?

Does the webplayer display no output? Can you try to start a transcode on a native app like Plex for iOS or Android instead of the webplayer?

Thank you.

The web player goes from playing the video to a black screen, it did the same thing on 6.9.0 beta35 but after about 3 seconds it would restart playing the video HW transcoded.. Now the screen just stays black.

But it's all good, I tried ios app and the server started HW transcoding.

Yes, I think this is a Webplayer issue since I get this problem also sometimes.

Please look at this post, I now got 3 users with the same problem:

Eventually also post a short reply to this ticket that is linked in the post above.

What could be causing plex not to transcode via gpu. This happened after upgrade.

This was descussed a few times here in the thread, the solution was actually to switch to the plexinc container or linuxserver container.

You can also hook @binhex woth a short message or a post in his thread, I think he runs his container just fine with the Plugin.

Didn't change anything

What didn't change anything, have you switched the containers? Have you wrote binhex?

Are you sure that your Plexpass is valid and the container is able or at least knows that you have a Plexpass?

I have tried all the various Plex docker flavors. Just contacted Binhex. Yes, I have a account that is associated with an Plex pass and Plex knows that.

What exactly doesn't work do you only get a blank screen and no error message or did you get an error message that says it can't transcode or does Plex not use your GPU?

There is no running processes against my GPU when running 1080 movie.

I've seen times when nvidia-smi doesn't show anything but it is actually transcoding.

You should be sure you are forcing a transcode and then check in your Plex dashboard for the (hw) text like this...image.png.725306e94090d95d347dec3fd556c5f3.png

Can you try a more demaning file?

Like for example try a 1080p source file and transcode it to 720p 1Mbit/s or something like that.

You can also open up a Unraid terminal and type in 'watch nvidia-smi' so you see the output of nvidia-smi with a default refresh intervall of 2 seconds.

Hello,

Was wondering if a GT730 would be too old for this.

I couldn't get it to do hw decoding no matter what. I have read this whole thread and tried all the various fixes suggested.

The setup is : Unraid 6.9.0 RC2 on a PowerEdge R420 with a GT730 (I am limited by the power of the pcie slot), Plex container is binhex-pass, Plex does recognize my account as having a Pass under Account>> About ,the container has been updated with all the variables.

See below the attached screenshots. Any advice will be appreciated.  Thank you!!

can you see the nvidia card if you run nvidia-smi from inside the docker terminal?

This is what I get from inside the docker container terminal.

I feel rather dumb now :)    You are absolutely right. I totally missed that.

Oh well....I guess will skip the Plex decoding, will use it for VM passthru only.

Thank you

No worries. If you want budget, then I'd get a GTX 1050 or a Quadro P400 for Plex transcoding. I run a P400 I got off e-bay for like $70 over a year ago that works very well, no external power required.

I wouldn't mind however the R420 Pcie slot can only give 30W and that is the reason why I went with the 730 as it draws only25W
