GPU Passthrough Crash only with OSX

Featured Replies

Hi

Weird one and not sure how to troubleshoot. I have a Windows 10 VM and a Catalina/Mojave/High Sierra VM all working fine without GPU passthrough.

What's strange is that as soon as I pass through my nvidia 1650 to the OSX VMs the entire UNRAID crashes/freezes when the apple logo appears on boot.

The Windows 10 VM does not crash and the nvidia gfx card is detected fine. Why are the OSX VMs causing a kernel panic and not the windows vm?

Also, when the crash happens, I have to re-enable VM in the UNRAID settings after reboot, not sure why this setting is being disabled after the crash? Maybe to protect the libvirt img?

XML for the OSX and Windows VM attached.

this is an easy fix, if you are using spaceinvader´s latest Macinabox, he has a script for fixing the virtual machine's  XML. one of the parameters you can give to this script is

# set to "yes" if boot hangs on the apple logo
REMOVETOPOLOGY="yes"

I had a similar probe as you have, setting that parameter solved my problem.
