Marvell SAS Controller question (88SE6440)

I've got a LenovoEMC px12-400r, and want to reuse it for unraid as a backup box.

I've seen a lot of warnings for Marvell SATA controllers, but how about the 88SE6440 SAS controller?

 

This chassis doesn't allow any different motherboards, or sas cards (Uses a large edge connector straight from the motherboard to the backplane.)

 

Unraid is currently running on the box, but I'm concerned about drives dropping.

This is an old model, it works with Unraid, I tested one once, not sure if it works reliably as I didn't use it for long.

Can you tell me how this worked?  Also, does it support drives larger than 3TB.  All the docs say max of 3TB but thats a weird size and I feel like it's just because that was the largest drive available at the time.
