New Drive UDMA CRC and other Errors

Featured Replies

Hi I precleared and added a new drive into my array on older hardware about a week ago. The drive had been working fine, however today i started moving data using the unbalance plugin to the new disk so i can format my old drives in the array from reiserfs to xfs. When doing this i noticed the UDMA CRC error count quickly start to rise. Because of this i stopped the process of unbalance and shutdown the server. I then reconnected the sata cable from my HBA controller to the hard drive. Afterwards I started moving a small set of data to test if the UDMA CRC error count would increase again but it hasnt.

The UDMA CRC error count of went from 0 to 40 really quickly before i reconnected the sata cable. below is a snippet of the SMART report that looks concerning to me

Raw read error rate       0x000f   114    100   006      Pre-fail   Always   Never  78487952

Seek error rate              0x000f   100   253  030    Pre-fail   Always   Never  198850

UDMA CRC error count   0x003e  200  200  000  Old age  Always   Never   40

So is the drive ok, and it was just a loose SATA connection causing the issues above?

Thanks for the help.

yes

You can click on the SMART warning on the Dashboard to acknowledge it and it will warn you again if CRC increases.
