November 27, 20205 yr As long the FTP feature does not allow to set share/disk based security settings I like to see a new default share folder in Unraid which is called "FTP": And in addition a new default ftp path as follows: By that the FTP service would not use the root-path as default and the user sees directly which path can be accessed through FTP (and which not). I remind the first time I used the FTP service and was surprised that it allowed access to all server paths. Optional: If possible, the user should be able to add multiple paths, separated by comma: /mnt/user/FTP, mnt/user/nextcloud/common/nextcloud/data/
January 24, 20251 yr I previously used ProFTPd on verion 6 but it stopped working on OS7. The built in FTP server is very easy to setup and operate BUT: It doesn't start by default. I would like for it to automatically start after the array starts. AND For some reason, it defaults to /mnt/ directory. This gives RW permissions to whatever can access it. I hate that! FTP is notoriously easy to hack. And everyone knows that it uses port 21. So it's easy to assume that a port scan of port 21 can reveal your easy to hack FTP server which can lead to losing everything. That's frightening! I only need it for my security camera NVR system to upload the videos and images to. That's it. Where ProFTPd I was allowed to set the FTP directory to /mnt/user/CameraNVR and the FTP server would ONLY be that directory so if the FTP was to be compromised, that's all I'd lose. But now I risk losing it all. I have tried a few of the community FTP servers and they're all waaaayyyy too difficult to configure for me. Any inputs or thoughts?
