Dune shortcuts not showing correct icon from usershares

Featured Replies

I got another problem with the fact the dune can only access 1 user share at a time

setup now

Tower ->

1. Media

      - Movies

      - Yadis

      - Series

2. Music

3. Foto's

4. Concerts

Now, i wanted to change the shortcut's pictures on the front page of the dune

You can do this by adding dune_folder.txt and within a link to a icon.aai

The only problem is

If i do that with a shortcut to the user share Music

I don't see the icon on the mainpage of the dune.

If i make a shortcut to the fysical place of "Music" So to Disk2\Music, the shortcut icon does work!

For now its ok since i only have music on my disk2

But in the very near future that will expand to disk3 too.. so i really need a solution for this very urgent.

Placing everything under 1 user share is not an option for me... since i want different split levels for music, movies, concerts and foto's

So any ideas how i can solve this?

So do both shares work? That is to say, can you access and play your music from both the user share and the disc share? Assuming you can, then I'd say you need to look at the icon_path in the dune_folder.txt.  In any case, I'm 99.9% confident that this is an HDI Dune issue and not an UnRaid issue.

If you have user shares set up for music and TV and ... the fact that the shares are multi disk is irrelevant proving Dune only sees addressing in terms of the user share. Unraid will find the icon if it is on any disk in that disks movies share as long as dune addresses it with no disk qualifier and only the movies share name.

Yes i can, the icon_path in the dune_folder.txt is just right, im sure..

anyone else?

Still haven't got this working...

Guess i'm alone for this issue :(

I would try to help but I have no Dune to mess with and try to replicate this issue.

you could buy one lol :P

I don't use my Dunes for music playback, and it is not one of their stronger features through the UI.

So you could test it?

So you could test it?

No, I don't think I said that.  I don't A) keep any music on my unRAID server, and I don't B) use my Dune players to stream music.  So no, I can't test it.

What is the icon path that you're sure is correct?

What is the icon path that you're sure is correct?

For example for music

Tower->\Music (user share)

Inside \Music , i have 2 files, and maps containing music

then 1 icon.aai file (picture)

and 1 dune_folder.txt containing this:

use_icon_view=yes

icon_path=icon.aai

Again, this works when i make the shortcut directly  but not to the user share...

It would probably work if i do it like this:

Tower ->

1. Media

      - Movies

      - Yadis

      - Series

      - Music

      - Foto's

      - Concerts

instead of:

Tower ->

1. Media

      - Movies

      - Yadis

      - Series

2. Music

3. Foto's

4. Concerts

But its kinda stupid to do it that way no?

Only the one I've made before. It's a Dune problem and not an UnRaid problem so you are unlikely to find an answer here. My best guess (as I've said before) is that you need to change the icon path - possibly include the full path or URL to point to where the icon resides. It may even be a bug with the Dune firmware. Personally I don't use icon view for my music share as it is a complete pita and list view is much better (IMO). You'll no doubt ignore this post as you have with every other one I've made, and keep asking for other opinions, so I'll not waste any more of my time.

Well i cant paste the full path (to the icon) since the full path(icon) is on multi disks... thatswhy i made a usershare...

But since that doesnt work for this part...

(with yadis it does... strange thing)

I don't want this for music only but also for "concerts" ; "pictures" and so on..

I posted any comment -> to the smb-extra.conf file to create an all data share..

any comments on that?

what is it/ how does it work....

you don't feel like testing it once for me?

For example

with music

Go to your user share "music"

Add 2 files:

- icon.aai (a small icon in AAI format)

- dune_folder.txt containing:

icon_path=icon.aai

Then it should show that icon in the dune's main screen

The icon should only be on one disk. So, the path would be \mnt\disk#\Music\icon.aai with # being replaced by the disk number.

You create the smb-extra.conf on the flash and put the info as posted. I can't recall where but maybe in the config directory. Open and read the other config files for your existing shares to get a better idea of what goes inside the file.

I'm not with you on the highlighted text, can you explain please? What's the smb-extra.conf for?

So the solution is to keep the shortcut to the share? but put the shortcut's icon on one disk? Is that possible

Geeze, this isn't that hard. Go to \\TOWER\flash\config\shares and there are config files. Create the smb-extra.conf like already posted. It will create a share of all your media.

The share can use multiple disks. The icon file should only be on one disk. That's why I posted to use the path to the actual disk holding the file.

I tried putting the file on one disk. And made a shortcut to the share "music'" which has a dune_folder.txt containing a path as

\mnt\disk2\Icons\music.aai (this one should really be it?)

mnt\disk2\Icons\music.aai

\disk2\Icons\music.aai

disk2\Icons\music.aai

but not one works...

Sorry, I got the path wrong, the path should be \\tower\disk2\Icons\music.aai

A media player external to the server won't be able to find the \mnt path, since that is an internal path.

If you're not completely sure of the path then go to the file location in Windows Explorer and copy it from the bar at the top. Don't try to use a link to a mapped network drive though (like having disk2 mapped to be f:\ on your PC), because the media player will have no knowledge of a mapped drive on a PC. Linux and unRAID requires you to be mindful of capitalization too.

Peter

skank,

It is beginning to appear that you really do not understand paths, Samba, PC operatioons or how thw Dune works. I strongly suggest you get a basic book (the dummies series, no offense intended) and read until you understand about files, naming conventions, and basic network access.

I have a Dune but I do not use it the way you do. I do not use any part of the Dune GUI and have my own librarian. My unraid system is simply oprgainized with User shares for each main category (Movies, TVShows, Concerts, Music).  When I read I always access through the user share (e.g. \\Tower\Movies\. . . ).  When I write I always write directly to the disk of interest (e.g. \\tower\disk1\movies\. . . ).  I prefer to totally control the allocation of space so I do not let unraid allocate where a file is going.

I have never had a problem accessing any file/folder on the unraid from either the Dune or any other host (Linux or Windows) on the network.  You are doing something wrong someplace
