January 30, 201115 yr It has been 22 days since my last parity check. If I do not have drive trouble or anything out of the ordinary come up, does the parity check have to happen? I know there is a package I can add-on to force a parity check monthly, but I would like to do it manually since I use my server/computers all odd/weird times. Thanks- Michael
January 30, 201115 yr Most of the users schedule parity checks to occur at least once a month. I wouldn't go any longer than that. It's good to make sure all your drives are functioning and valid. I tend to do parity checks every two weeks. I start on a Friday night, so if any issues show up, I can tend to them Sunday and place orders for replacement hardware to arrive before the next weekend. You can still use your computers and servers when a Parity Check is occurring, so that shouldn't be a pressing consideration.
February 9, 201115 yr How much of a delay is there in parity data? As in, if I just copied file "xyz" to a data drive, and that data drive goes bad immediately afterward, would a rebuild include that new file?
February 9, 201115 yr Like said Parity is written concurrently, but its important to check that parity, which most of us do once a month via unMENU addon. Every 1st of the month I get an email telling me Parity has begun
February 9, 201115 yr Data is sometimes not flushed to the disk right away. Running the sync command forces all writes to disk. It also spins up every drive.
