Little help for an unRaid Build

Featured Replies

Been reading up some on NAS and what my options are, it seems I'm leaning more towards unRaid so here goes:

Here are parts I have at home and parts I've accumulated/bought for my setup, please let me know if all is good.

Mobo: DFI NF4 Lanparty UT

CPU: AMD Athlon 3700+

RAM: OCZ Gold Edition VX PC3200 2 x 512mb Dual CH

Video: BFG GeForce 7600GT (my mobo does not have built-in video and have this lying around)

Power Supply: Enermax Liberty 500W

Case: Antec 300

Hard Drives: 3 x Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB

If the above parts are OK then I`m off to build my server this week!

On to another question and hope an answer:

My setup will consist of 3 x 2 TB Hard Drives, however only 2 of them are empty at this time. The 3rd one have movies, data and music stored. How can go around setting up my unRaid with this dilemna.

This unRaid server will mostly be used to house HD Movies, TV Shows, Pictures on a Gigabit Network Connection. I have a WDTV Live that will be connected wired to the network and a few other PC`s.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated and apologize for the noobness.

I would recommend searching the Motherboard forum for your motherboard.  Not sure if I've seen it referenced before.  But most newer motherboards are well supported.

Rest of equipment seems good for a first build!

You can create the array with the 2 empty disks.  You'd have one data and one parity.  Then you can copy the data from the other 2T disk to the array.  Once complete, you can add the 2T to unRAID.  That will require that the disk be reformatted.

Should work great!  Anything that can use a Samba (or NFS and soon to be AFP) protocol can access the space on unRAID.

Check out the "Read this first" post in the top of the "General Support" forum.  Lots of useful links to get you started.  Feel free to post any questions.

Welcome aboard!

Thank you for the replies, appreciate the info.

I checked the Motherboard section as well as the list of motherboards that are tested to work, the mobo i have is not listed and could not find anyone using the same one; I think I'm just going to give it a try. I will also need to find out if this mobo allows to boot from usb, hoping it would so i can finally make use of this mobo.

Thats perfect i can start with the 2 x 2TB HD, didn't know i can do that but that saves me. Going to start with the free version then I'm sure will be getting the Plus not long after.

I am really excited with this and can't wait to get this going, I'm sure will be posting more questions; hopefully wont be annoying 8)

Thank you again.

So tried putting things together and was so excited to get it done, everything was hooked up and i turned on the PC ............. nothing happened!  :'( Could it be the motherboard? power supply? been trying to figure it out and could not think of anything.

How can i test if my power supply works? i asked the person i got it from and he swears it was working.

Could it be my motherboard? have not used it for a while and it wasn't stored properly (just put it inside a box)

Tried unhooking everything from the motherboard in hopes that something connected was causing it. Right now only thing connected to the motherboard is the CPU/heatsink and just the ATX 24pin power connector from the PSU.

Any suggestions?

Mobo: DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra D

CPU: Athlon 3700+

Heatsink: Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro

Ram: OCZ Gold VX 1G

PSU: Enermax Liberty 500W

Video: BFG GeForce 7600GT

Help!

Most motherboards need both the 24 pin connector AND an additional 4 or 8 pin connector that powers the CPU.

Did you conect both?

I did and still did not work.

I did manage to get it to work, i swapped my desktop PSU with this one, both are working right now; just alot of work to get started.

Now off to setup/install unRaid...... wish me luck!

And i thought this would be easy LOL.

Now the USB wont boot  :'(

I am able to see it from the bios and able to set it to boot from USB but it keeps stopping after the following messages during boot:

Verifying DMI Pool Data ....................

Backup CMOS ... OK!

then I just see a blinking "_" below it and nothing else.

Going to call it a night, sleep on it and try again tomorrow.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this? I did follow the steps to create/download/copy files to USB and make it bootable. I downloaded 4.7AiO which is the last stable release.

It now boots from USB, seems my USB stick does not work so was able to find another one.

I now have a different problem LOL

I'm at the beginning where to display the IP address, followed the steps

-root

-ipconfig eth0

Soon as I enter after i put ipconfig eth0, i get a message saying command not found. I dont think this is hardware related as it would have displayed something else would it?

Help! I'm soooo close LOL

it's ifconfig not ipconfig
