  1. Hi!

At the moment have a Gigabyte X570 Elite and a 3900x CPU, 32Gb ram and 2 GPU's, slot 1 a 3080 and slot 2 a rx580. I had TONS of problems with the "stuck in D3 state" and "Unknown PCI header type '127'" when passing the GPUs, specially with the 3080 in the slot 1.

To make them work I had to rollback the Mobo bios all the way back to F3 version which is the first one, missing a ton of CPU optimizations and fixes in general, BAR support, and I guess even vulnerabilities fixes.

Another problem I found is that I need a physical monitor connected to the 3080 in order to work, a HDMI dummy doens't work or I get error 43 (no matter how much I DDU and reinstall drivers). Also with this Bios version the IOMMU groups are way worse, and I need ACS patching set to "both" to have decent separation, even though I'm just passing the GPUs and one usb controller (for mouse, keyboard, webcam etc)

Anyways, luckily now is stable, but I'm really bothered that I cannot use a hdmi dummy and that I have to use a really old bios, and the IOMMU groups of the old bios version.

I would like to upgrade to a 5900x or a 5950x but I would need a bios upgrade for support I think, so it would break everything. So my questions are:

Anyone knows if there is any plan for a BIOS that works? Is this AMD or gigabytes fault? (seems like amd as per spaceinvader's video on the topic as this happens with other vendors)

Would another motherboard fix this? (would hate to have to buy another mobo tbh)

Is ryzen 3000 series not really intended for my use? Should I look into threadripper? Does it have better support?

Should I just ditch my cpu and motherboard and switch to Intel? Is there better support?

I'm trying to decide my upgrade path but I'm not sure what to do. Maybe my use case is not the intended one? Should I get a basic M1 MBP for content creation, a bare metal PC for gaming and dual boot to linux for daily use? And just leave my unraid server for backups, nextcloud, jellyfin/plex, vpn server etc?

Thanks a lot for the help! I'm a long time lurker and this is my first time creating a topic and really like unraid.

Thank you @ghost82.  Following your instructions I have Big Sur installed.  Now, I need to research the least expensive graphics card I could pass through to get reasonable performance for light use of Big Sur.

I think the 710 is still supported but not on Monterey. Maybe a amd 570?

Thanks a lot. WIll look into it.

Unfortunately, update to Monterrey "bricked" my VM. I tried to switch back to VNC to understand what's going on, but this also doesn't work (guest has not initiated the screen yet). I remember the latter error was easily fixable through some change in the XML (and a bug when switching back from passthrough to VNC). I couldn't find though what I had to change in the XML. Anyone remember?

I had this happened to me when switching from GPU passthough to VNC. I had to delete the VM (keeping the disks) and recreating it again to fix it. I haven't tried if there is a better solution.

I understand it can be difficult to manually edit the config.plist to update smbios data.

As I wrote I pushed a pr to the container.

Since it's not merged yet, you can "manually" apply the changes by following these advices:

    0. clean the container, delete all files

    1. Setup Macinabox in Apps (uncheck Autostart)

    2.

    wget https://github.com/SpaceinvaderOne/Macinabox/raw/2a2400c44af497a00f2610523cb0c0844d2aae27/bootloader/OpenCore.img.zip

    3.

    docker cp ./OpenCore.img.zip macinabox:/Macinabox/bootloader/OpenCore.img.zip

    4. Start Docker Container and proceed as normal

Then, you can use opencore configurator, latest version at the time of writing, or better to use v. 2.51.0.0:

    https://mackie100projects.altervista.org/download/opencore-configurator-2-51-0-0/

since the latest version 2.52.0.0 supports opencore development version (not stable) which added a couple of new options in the config.plist.

I ended up installing Monterey (I didn't know how to fix the download methods) with this fix to update the opencore version. GPU passthough was not working with a rx580 with the default version, or maybe it was the .kexts? It works fine now with the exception that I cannot pass 18,20 or 22 cores.. even though i had the remove topology to "yes" in the macinabox user script. I had to choose 16

Premise is that I don't use macinabox now, but it seemed that method 2 in the docker from ca was method 1 in github code when I tested it the first time; I'm not sure is still like this, can you check if method 1 downloads few hundreds of MB or about 12 GB? --> during the download you can check folder /isos and look for the file size.

If method 1 is the same method 1 in github (method 1 is fetch-macos2.py in github), I pushed a pr for it:

    https://github.com/SpaceinvaderOne/Macinabox/pull/54

Did you apply it, together with all my other prs?

    Hi! thanks for the help.

It downloaded a 3.3GB file named "BigSur-install.img" i don't know if this is correct or I checked too late.

I don't know how to apply your prs sorry

  5. I just installed the Macinabox app, selected Big Sur, method 2. After downloading the container, the user scripts doensn't appear and there is no VM created. This is with a clean install, not template prior to this.

Edit: using method 1 works, but installs monterey

    Further Update:

I encountered the same issue again on my completely fresh install and managed to isolate the cause this time.

The crashing began after installing the latest MSI Afterburner 4.6.3 beta. As soon as I rolled back to 4.6 the BSODs immediately stopped.

Maybe this can help people searching for this issue in the future...

    Andy

Just wanted to save that you're a lifesaver, for some reason it worked fine for everything for months. But now installing the Trezor Bridge software I was getting a BSOD. Downgrading to 4.6.3 (now has a stable version) worked, i had the 4.6.3 beta too.

  7. I would like to be able to make a snapshot of a VM as a way of backing up the system and being able to restore it to a previous version. If that's what ZFS would do, that's fine with me. If it need to be an standalone feature, then that.

Would be great if either way would be able to do it while the VM is running, like in ESXi.

  8. I tried to search but I didn't found anything. Has anyone been able to passthough an iGPU from intel? everything works fine with a discrete gpu but i would like to try to only work with the iGPU from an intel 6700k so an intel graphics 530, or even having both, a discrete gpu (580 for example) + the iGPU.

    Is this possible?

On windows I can passthough the igpu fine without doing anything

  9. Hi! I don't know if this has been covered but I don't find a solution. I managed to make a Remote tunneled access via wireguard to remotely access my unraid and network. But the guide in OP says that we cannot have to wireguard configs enabled at the same time.

So is there any way to set up unraid to route all of its traffic outsite via a commecial vpn for privacy and also have another way to vpn into my unraid and lan from outside?

  10. Hi! I've search through the thread but I haven't found how to pass the iGPU. I have a i7 10700 and I cannot manage to pass correctly the igpu. I've set it as a second gpu, and modified the OpenCore config file to match what is says here https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Install-Guide/config.plist/comet-lake.html#deviceproperties PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x2,0x0) > new AAPL,ig-platform-id = 0300C89B as I want to use it to compute but not to drive a display.

It boot to the boot menu, apple logo and the crashes

    Anyone can help me?

  11. Any chance on how to make it work for macinabox? I tried passing it via the VM settings as a 2nd Graphics Card, and I set it in the OpenCore config file as a compute igpu (doesn't drive a display) following this guide https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Install-Guide/config.plist/comet-lake.html#deviceproperties Adding "PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x2,0x0)" in deviceprop and AAPL,ig-platform-id with 0300C89B. It boot to the boot options, the apple logo starts loading and then crashes

  12. Hi! new in unRaid. I want to set a VPN connection to be able to remotely access my unraid server, and also a commercial VPN (I'm using mullvad) to be able to make outgoing connections encrypted too. I don't know if this is possible or have been discussed before, but I haven't seen this case I think.

I managed to setup a wireguard to be able to remotely connect to unraid and works fine. But I'm trying to also add the mullvad wireguard configuration and it doens't work. I don't even know the process needed. I my idea was having 2 wireguard configs, but when I add the Mullvad VPN setup my external Ip changes, so I have to change also the other VPN config. I have also opened in mullvad a port to use. But it doesn't work.

I'm not even sure if the steps I'm doing are the correct ones for my purpose
