  1. So glad I found this thread, I have been having other plex issues all week and finally got it sorted out, installed pihole yesterday and went to watch some shows as a family.  Well after about the 100th freeze during the night my family all looked at me, with the "look"  that goes beyond WAF and into FAF.   Changed my DNS on unraid to point to googles and so far so good.  And tested it on the all important roku in the room we watch stuff as a family.

No idea on why it would cause a system wide unraid network issue, but digging through the plex logs last night I couldn't find anything that stood out as a issue, thats when I started doing some searches for possible solutions.   Now I have to go and try to figure out how to fix homeassistant after the last update broke my automations.   :(

  2. Ok, I am still having problems with trying to preclear a 8tb disk,  I took a old tower and put a new install of unraid on a usb stick, stuck the 8tb drive in the case, installed unassigned devices and the preclear plugin.  It started up, and was moving along for a little over 5 hours, and now it looks like its frozen again.  It hasn't progressed any farther than this in about 2 hours

Any clues, this is starting to drive me nuts because I am running out of space on my setup and need to add drives fairly soon

    root@Tower:~# ps -ef | grep preclear_disk.s
    root     17197 17185  0 09:19 pts/0    00:02:53 /bin/bash /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/preclear.disk/script/preclear_disk.sh --cycles 1 --no-prompt /dev/sdf
    root     17201 17197  0 09:19 pts/0    00:00:00 /bin/bash /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/preclear.disk/script/preclear_disk.sh --cycles 1 --no-prompt /dev/sdf
    root     21224 17197 99 14:36 pts/0    01:36:58 /bin/bash /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/preclear.disk/script/preclear_disk.sh --cycles 1 --no-prompt /dev/sdf
    root     21225 21224  0 14:36 pts/0    00:00:00 [preclear_disk.s] <defunct>
    root     31341 23833  0 16:13 pts/1    00:00:00 grep preclear_disk.s

And it looks like preclear_disk.s is a zombie again.   I don't know if the process is actually running in the background and it just stopped updating the progress screen.  And I am not sure what to even look for to see if it is or not

  3. I noticed it had a zombie process, ran this command

    ps axo stat,ppid,pid,comm | grep -w defunct

and it was the preclear process, I killed the pid, so looks like I am back to square one.  If anybody can maybe give me some tips on where to look for the log to see where it was or what it was doing, that would be awesome

    Thanks

I have a question and hopefully not a problem.  I have had my unraid setup for about a year and so far I haven't really had any problems with preclearing drives.  Last week I purchased 2 seagate 8tb drives.  The last time I precleared a 8tb drive with no issues, I used a usb 3 drive enclosure, used unassigned devices and the preclear plugin to get that drive ready (it took a while but it worked, I don't have any free slots in my small server, thats why I went with the enclosure).   So when i got my 2 drives, I tried the same thing (not both at the same time)  The first disk I tried started up the 1st step of the pre-read process, it got to 35% and the status update pop up I get when I click on the preview eye icon stopped updating.  I let it sit over night and none of the counters incremented any further, not the percentage or the time counter, but I could still see the activity light on the enclosure blinking.  I went to work, giving it another 12 hours, and when I got back home, the status was still at the same spot.  I figured it was hung, so I canceled the process.

I then decided I was going to try the other drive, I started that up and let it do its thing.  I kept an eye on the preview pop window.  I left it open so I could glance at it whenever i was near my computer.  it was slowly cruising along, until yesterday morning,  It has not progressed any further than 58% this time on the first step and the activity light is blinking away, I don't have any of my other dockers turned on, after the first hang.  I did some searches and found some threads that mentioned memory being maxed out may cause some issues.  (I have 8GB and 6.9 are available)  With nothing running except just unraid and the preclear script "running"  so I don't think its a memory issue, I also noticed that my Avg cpu load is hovering around 30% and I can see my cores being used,  one is at a 100% and the other 3 have a couple of %'s and they rotate around in usage.  my memory usage is around 15%, Normally with nothing running and the machine just sitting idle those numbers are a lot lower.

So to me it looks like something is running, when I ran the top command in a shell window the preclear process is at the very top of the list

I am not sure where to go from here, is there a log to see, if its really doing something in the background, I updated everything before I started to try to preclear the disks,  If there is any info you need from me please let me know, I feel like I should kill the process, but I don't want to if its really running in the background.  I don't want to loose any progress just in case its really running and not hung.  I am open to any other options that may be out there
