  1. They offered this deal when iOS 5.0 released and I signed up for it.  Haven't really uploaded anything to it but I know that it'll be there if/should I ever need to.

  2. I ment opening it up to over the internet, I don't plan on doing it but was just curious if it was possible.  That was one of many things I told my family: not possible, doing so invites other people to snoop through it, yada yada yada.  Just curious if it was possible or not.

  3. I've had a lot of family members ask me if it was possible for them to access my unRAID and watch movies or download stuff from it.  At first I just blew them off and said NO, but then my mom asked about doing it to get pictures of my daughter and now I'm a little curious if it is possible or not.  Maybe just give them READ only privileges (wouldn't want someone accidentally deleteing something)?

  4. I have a Dell Vostro (the business version of the mini9) notebook with OSX loaded on it.  Install was pretty easy following an old lifehacker guide.  Threw a Apple sticker over the Dell badge to finish it off.  The sticker seems to get the most attention though, people always ask about it when I pull it out at an airport.

A friend of mine did that as well to his Mini 9.  I have a Mini 10 that Im about to get rid of. I considered installing OS X on it, but it has an Intel WWAN card in it, and alas, no drivers for OS X.

Why you getting rid of it?

Its just time for an upgrade for me.  You interested in buying it?

Haha, I would be if I had some extra cash to send your way!

  7. XBMC (Openelec) on a Zbox

Same here, it plays everything I've thrown at it.  I spend more time watching this than cable tv.  I also have PLEX on a Mac in another room but it hasn't gotten much love since I connected the Zbox to the living room tv.

  8. I'm still amazed at the prices and how they keep falling!  Just a few months ago I remember these drives being around the $120 mark and being stoked when they would go on sale for $100, now the regular price is $84.  Guess that means I'll have all my under 2tb drives replaced sooner than I ever expected!

  9. I have OpenELEC running on a Zbox and I love it!  Still haven't figured out how to get the "click click" menu sound to work but I'm ok without it.  Not a real deal breaker.  Even had a thread running in the OpenELEC forums but nothing seemed to help  :-\  Very supportive though if you ever run into any problems.  And I was very surprised at how easy it was to set up, it's gotten even easier the last time I did it! Now it's down to 1 thumb drive and really only takes a few mins.  Someone else on the forums here pointed me to OpenELEC and I couldn't be happier!

      ;D

  10. Just saw Motorola is planning on putting out a XBMC remote!  Kinda like the Boxee remote, with a keyboard on the backside.  No word if it's backlit or not.  I know a lot of you have been using a Harmony universal but I haven't had much luck with mine (although I haven't REALLY tried).  I did a quick program of it and it seems "sluggish" compared to the cheap MCE remote.  Now I just use the MCE remote but I do keep a keyboard near the TV just in case.  This looks like it would eliminate the need for it....But for $60 it better be backlit!

  11.   I have a Mac in one room running Plex and a ZBOX hooked up to my TV in the living room running XBMC and I couldn't be happier...Well maybe if I could get Plex on the ZBOX.  Anyway, what do you mean by a seperate library from Plex?  I have both Plex and XBMC pointed to the same files on my unRaid and everything works the way it should.

I also have an ATV2 but it never really gets used.  Apple just updated the iOS and it's currently in the works of being jailbroken.  As of yesterday (30mar) I saw they had a tethered boot which might not be so bad for you since you have the MacBook right there but wasn't an option for me.  Usually once the ATV gets jailbroken you have a window of a few weeks to jailbreak yours before Apple puts out a patch.  As far as price goes, the ATV2 is very cost effective, and simple to use.

I know Plex is incredibly polished and I saw a poll on the Plex forums some time ago asking what people wanted to see as their next project (I'm pretty sure unRaid won) so it's only a matter of time until they manage to incorparate it.  *shrug* Keep your fingers crossed! I'm anxious for it, but until then, I'll stick with my cheap ZBOX running XBMC.  ;D

  12. XBMC allows you to export the library.

    Export Video Library

Exports the Library database to either one, or multiple XML files. When you initiate an export, XBMC will ask if you want to export to separate or a single file.

When exporting to a single file XBMC will bring up a browser dialog where you select where you want it exported. XBMC will then create a subdirectory with the resulting xml file plus all thumbnails and fanart, watched status will be exported to the xml file.

If you choose to export to separate files you will also be asked if you want to export thumbnails and fanart as well.

The resulting XML nfo file and associated image files will then be exported to the location of the corresponding video files.

    :o

Thank you!  That's a LOT quicker than using Messy, I learn something new here everyday!

  13. Played with Messy Media Manager a little bit and it's pretty slick.  Trial version lets you manage 10 movies a day for 10 days.  So a trial of 100 movies.  $10 gets you full copy, unlimited use.  It's not 100% automated, you still have to go through each movie but it is pretty nice and easy.  Scrapes TMDB for everything, can't change where you want it to look.  Also does not scrape category (*EDIT* It does not scrape GENRE, in the Genre it simply says "category0") :-[  Other than that though it is pretty easy to use, a little slow at times but with so many movies loaded to it (1200) I can understand the bog down.

  14. Thanks a lot Kizer! I'll give it a look through a little later tonight.  I was on XBMC forums earlier today and came across a few but their websites looked a little out of date (404 and what not).  I also saw Universal Media Compainion (UMX but they haven't updated their site since Nov.)

Jamerson9, I haven't looked too deep into XBMC to see if it can create the NFO and dl/store the art.  Although I don't see why not, if it has to download it anyways, why couldn't it save the jpg file? *shrug*  I'll look at that later as well, after the kiddo goes to sleep.  Thanks for the idea!

  15.   I'm sorry, I might not have been clear as to what I was looking for...

I have Plex on my Mac and it's great, however the Zbox (did NOT have a OS so it's running an OpenELEC vers of XBMC) I have hooked up to my TV can't use Plex (I wish it could) so I'm using XBMC.  As far as where it looks, I have it set to scan TMDB.com (really makes no difference between TMDB or IMDB, I tried it  :( ) and my folders are set up correctly.  I'm looking for something that will scan my media (all stored on my unRaid) and automatically download fanart/folder art so I don't have to manually do it for all 1300+ movies.

The reason I'm looking to do so is, besides ease of back up, to speed up XBMC.  I have a SSD installed so initial power on is quick but scrolling through all my movies (Confluence skin with Media Info) sometimes it takes a few seconds for the Fanart to come up with the appropriate movie.  If I skip through quickly I can get 5 or 6 movies through before XBMC catches up with Fanart.  I have noticed though that Fanart stored locally (without XBMC having to scrape it) loads MUCH quicker (maybe a sec or so).

After reading http://lifehacker.com/#!5505849/how-to-whip-your-movie-and-tv-show-art-into-shape-for-xbmc-and-boxee I figured a media manager would be what I was looking for, however, Media Companion and Ember both do not work with a Mac (my primary computer).  Anyone know of a media manager that is Mac friendly?  Or am I out of luck and have to download all my fanart manually?

    Thanks again!  ;D

  16. Does anyone know of a media manager that is Mac friendly?  I've read of Media Companion and Ember but I haven't seen much as far as Mac goes.  I'm trying to speed up XBMC and I really don't feel like going through 1200 movies individually to get fanart/folder art  :(

  17. Has anyone recieved notice of the caps yet?  I've read articles saying they would send out notifications on the 18th but I still haven't seen anything.  I'm a little curious on how they will notify you of current usage, some sort of widget or data tracker on AT&T website?

  18. How well would this work for a more 'embedded' variety of application, such as being a router/firewall?

I'm taking a look at this, and running ipFire off of it.

I have no idea, I was just going to install it in my Zbox and run XBMC off of it.  Using it for something like that is above my know-how!
