  1.

Because it requires all your drives to be spun up.

Also, as your array width increases it will hit a point where this method is no longer faster, and in fact will start being slower.  This will also depend on your H/W (bus speed, ram speed).

So for a two drive system (one parity and one data drive) would it be advisable to leave this option always enabled?

  2. I'd also turn the write cache on. That's off by default.

Does enabling write cache have any noticeable benefit?

I just changed mine. When it was disabled I was doing around 45MB/s for a parity sync. With it enabled the speed jumped to over 100MB/s.

That's interesting. I wonder if there are any downsides to enabling it. Why is it disabled by default?

It says in the BIOS that if you lose power with caching enabled that you can lose data. So I guess as long as the MicroServer is connected to a UPS it should be fine.

    Ok thanks for the info.

  4. Is anybody else having issues with posting using Tapatalk? I'm on Android 4.2.2 using Tapatalk 1.3.0. I have tried several posts but when I press send a message says: "Connecting to Server" then disappears and the post is not submitted.

Just to add that when I try to access the Notification setting in Tapatalk for this forum it says:

"This forum plugin is out-of-dated (sic) and does not support push notification"

  5. I just want to confirm what it says in the release notes. I am currently running rc12a with 2GB of memory. To upgrade to rc15 I should copy bzimage, bzroot and syslinux.cfg to the flash drive?

There is no need for editing syslinux.cfg with this release?

    Thanks.

That's correct -- the syslinux.cfg distributed with RC15 does not have the "4GB" option in it.    This was the option included in the previous release that I had suggested you should not use (as it caused problems for many who didn't have 4GB in their systems).

So all you need to do is copy  bizimage, bizroot, and syslinux.cfg to the flash drive (you can do this while the system is running);  and then simply reboot the system.

Thanks for the clarification. I just wanted to be sure.

  6. I'm running RC12a and still seeing this problem of an empty NFS user share with a 600X3D. I also have a WDTV Live running the wdlxtv firmware. It can see the NFS share with no issues. The mount point in the WDTV for the share is:

    Device: 192.168.1.40:/mnt/user/Media
    Options: ro,vers=3,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,soft,intr,proto=udp,timeo=7,retrans=3,sec=sys,addr=192.168.1.40

while the mount point in the 600X3D is:

    rw,relatime,vers=3,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,namlen=255,hard,nolock,proto=udp,port=65535,timeo=7,retrans=3,sec=sys,mountport=65535,mountproto=,addr=192.168.1.40

  7. There is no significance to "60" it might be a value used by that model drive once it is in use.

NORMALIZED values are not described by the manufactures other than if they are above the affiliated error-threshold, the disk is healthy.  Manufacturers all set their own logic on how the RAW values are presented.  Some are actual counts, others are not.

As ab example, your power-on hours looks like an actual value

      9 Power_On_Hours          0x0032  100  100  000    Old_age  Always      -      7

but head-flying hours is probably not an actual human-readable value.

    240 Head_Flying_Hours      0x0000  100  253  000    Old_age  Offline      -      11154030067719

    Your disks look fine.

Thanks for the quick response Joe and also for your excellent tools for Unraid.

  10. I would really appreciate if someone could check these reports for me. I precleared two Seagate ST3000DM001 in my HP N40L Microserver. 8 hours into the first cycle I had a power cut, only a couple of seconds, but when the power returned Unraid was unreachable so I had to reboot and start again.

I am slightly concerned that both drives had changed Seek Error Rates but perhaps the fact that both values are 60 is significant?

As the post will be too long I'll post the pre and post SMART reports in following messages.

    Thanks in advance.
