  1. Just completed RAM test and as you have suggested - all is good. Can hear a slight/feint "clunk" from the server PC .. and suspect that this could be the cache drive. If I have to change it can I simply copy everything from it (drag/drop) or is there a "help-me" anywhere that tells me what to do?! Would hate to have to set everything up again!

    Thanks again in anticipation

  2. Hi - hope somebody on this wonderful forum can help/advise.

After a few months of working flawlessly I spotted that my unRaid Server 6.3.4 had frozen with an "out of memory" error. I had to force shutdown/restart and everything seemed OK and the sync started after reboot was progressing well. I spotted that an update for SickRage was available and so actioned this but, first time I've seen this, got a "failed" message and was left with an empty docker! This prompted me to take a look at the log ... and it's full of errors! Unfortunately I have no idea what they mean .. but there are so many of them that it seems serious! (especially if I have lost SickRage) Can anyone interpret in simple terms .. and advise on any fixes that I can carry out?! Thanks in anticipation of any help that I receive.

So you understand volume mappings now?

hmmmmm - "understand" is a strong word and probably not one I would use in this case! I know where to look though.

I still don't really understand how, after I had created a "newdownloadsfolder" share that was cache only (and created complete/incomplete/watched folders).... Sab "knew"  to map to this via /data. I guess that I must have entered these locations when I installed the docker and they were then passed to Sab?!

    Thankyou though

Take a look at the docker FAQ posts on folder mapping

Thanks CHBMB - just looked .. .and it seems to me that the article is ensuring that the user ensures that the same "downloads" folder is used for all apps that are working together?! My problem is that I can't get Sab to download and process in the folders that I have made .. and the SAB docker has made its own folders based on the addresses in the folder descriptions ... whereas I want Sab to use the Cache only share that I have created for this purpose.

And if you still need help post your docker run command (also in the FAQ).

And thanks yet again trurl - I forced an update to Sab and the run command is:

    root@localhost:# /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix.docker.manager/scripts/docker run -d --name="binhex-sabnzbd" --net="bridge" -e TZ="Europe/London" -e HOST_OS="unRAID" -e "UMASK"="000" -e "PUID"="99" -e "PGID"="100" -p 8080:8080/tcp -p 8090:8090/tcp -v "/mnt/user/NewDownloadsShare/":"/data":rw -v "/mnt/user/appdata/binhex-sabnzbd":"/config":rw binhex/arch-sabnzbd

    The command finished successfully!

  5. Hi - following a traumatic update to unRaid 6 (from 5) I am now attempting to install my first docker(s). I've started with Spaceinvader One's great YouTube tutorial.

I can follow everything that he does until I get to the point of setting up folders in Sabnzbd.

He suggests that you set up a Downloads folder on your Cache drive that contains complete/incomplete/watched folders. I simply can't do this?!

In Sabnzbd, when I navigate to "mnt" nothing appears.

If I hard-type "/mnt/cache/downloads/incomplete" this folder route is automatically made and appears in the config route  ... /appdata/bin-hex sabnzbd/mnt/downloads/incomplete... which is what I do not want to happen.

I have created a Downloads cache-only share but simply can't navigate to it from Sabnzbd folders menu... any advice gratefully received

    Thanks in anticipation

  6. tentatively putting Solved on this ... my unRaid has now run for almost 20 hours ... performed a full parity check, no ethernet problems reporting in any of the troubleshooting logs, and mangaged to stream a few things without a hic-cup. Still holding my breath - but to everyone who offered such great and helpful advice - thank you so much. Really good to know that such clever people are watching over your shoulder at such times!!!!!

You should use the poweroff command to try to get a clean poweroff if possible.

I was just concerned that something was creating that share.

It is very common for people to misconfigure apps in such a way that they accidentally create a top level folder (which as we know is a user share) that is named for a disk. This can be very confusing in Windows since it will make it look like you are seeing a disk when you are really seeing a user share.

Or they accidentally create a top level folder (a user share) that is the same as one of their user shares but with the wrong upper/lower case. Since Windows (SMB) makes no distinction between upper/lower case, it will just pick only one of these to show you. This makes people think they have lost files since they are looking at a different user share than they expect, since it appears to have the same name.

Thank you trurl - this is really becoming a good education for me - really wish I was a little calmer during the process though. Back up again now with two ethernet cables in play ... will try using it again and keep my fingers crossed.

  8. Just seen your responses by the way - thank you. I made the share called Cache (or cache) because I was getting totally confused when trying to first move from 5 to 6 and used some of the 5 config files .. but noticed that whilst I used to have a Cache share, it had gone when moving to version 6. I have since deleted it (I think?!) Sorry I can't be more clear/more technical ... struggling a bit with all of this. Just going to plug flash back in and try a new port for the network and hope that it makes a difference. Meanwhile can you see anything of interest in the files I just posted.. any more clues? Thanks again in anticipation

  9. Hi Squid- me again! It seemed to work OK for a few hours .. all the "no entry" signs dissapeared and so I started copying a few files/streamed a few files etc etc. Then it suddenly froze... all the files in my mac browser window dissapeared and the server would not respond to shutdown -h now .. had to pull the plug again. Have attached the two files from the flash drive here.... hope you can help!

  10. Hi Squid - thanks for the instructions - it's started up OK following your guidance and the array has started. I've started to play around with files via my Mac and suddenly all of the folders locked (on a Mac it shows as a red "no entry" sign on the folder) whilst I was looking at them ... and any folder I try to open states "you cannot open 'folder name" because you do not have permission to see its contents". So - more strange behaviour. There are about 2000 folders and they seemed to be slowly locking all of them. Next they are now all appearing as unlocked ... I open one and then close it and they are all locked again?! Totally bizarre! Have attached files as requested! Keeping my fingers crossed that you can make sense of this! Thanks in anticipation

  11. Hi Squid - thanks for your advice - how should I gather the diagnostics to post? Happy to put them up here as I am pretty desperate for some help/advice.

Performed a full clean install of 6.3.2 (reformatted memory stick, added pro licence to config, made bootable via Mac etc) then rebooted and assigned drives as per my v5 setup. All of my shares returned and seemed to be OK. I set SMB to Mac interoparability, installed Community Plug in, ran new permissions tool on all shares and all disks, installed Fix Common Problems and got the result above and thought that everything seemed OK.

HOWEVER .. I can look at folders and files on the shares via my Mac and sometimes folders appear empty, sometimes full. Sometimes the contents list disappears as I am looking at it! If I try to edit the name of a file it disappears... So, as you can see, I really do need some help please?! Just let me know how (or point me in the right direction) to create diagnostics report and I'll make and post straight away. Can't believe that I am having so many issues after years and years of perfectly stable version 5!

    Hope you can help

  12. Wow - right - thank you = that is really helpful. all of my drives have folders on them that correspond to my shares! not a problem re-setting up the settings .. was very worried that I would loose them. Have been using unRaid for several years .. but because it simply works when you set it up then I am totally out of date with it unfortunately. OK - so will try a nice clean setup and start again and then slowly add dockers as I start to understand them more. Thanks again - very helpful

I mostly discourage people from sharing disks. User share settings gives you all the control you need. Even more importantly, mixing disks and user shares while copying/moving can result in data loss. That is why disk shares are disabled by default.

Thank you trurl - advice taken. Just about to create a new clean unraid 6 install and try again - using drive assigns from the "broken" install that I have managed to get back up. Fingers crossed that shares will also return once I assign the drives - otherwise I am lost! Thanks again

Your OP sounded pretty confused. Did you read the Upgrading wiki before you started this?

    https://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Upgrading_to_UnRAID_v6

Yes I did - but unfortunately it did not go as planned. No idea why.

I backed up flash contents after stopping the array, I then copied the appropriate"old"  files to the right places (as per the Wiki) on the new version 6 install and have had nothing but problems since. If I could roll back to 5 I would .. but that back up will now not boot?! Problems include loss of Cache as a share, thousands of folders appearing locked from a mac, folder contents (on appdata) dissapearing and then reappearing later etc etc (whilst I am looking at them!). Bizarre - would go back to 5 in a heartbeat but that route is closed now I think

  15. right - thanks trurl - so I guess that I must have had Cache enabled as a share in the past install and the update to 6.00 has switched this off? I assume that if i switch on sharing again for this drive then it will perform as the old unraid cache drive that I knew and loved?!

Meanwhile - any advice re if I do a nice clean install of unraid 6 in order to remove any risk of screw ups from previous version 5.0, I can now reassign the drives as per the 5.00 install ... does this mean that I will get the same shares recovered and in place if I do this?! (ie the drives all contain the share information I think?!)
