  1. I can give you some tip for your situation why fan speed too overcharged it caused by HP server have some compatibility with variable parts. In example, if pci-express GPU card it doesn’t support option card sensor data(OCSD) that made by the protocol between HP and some hardware vendors, temperature sensor abnormally rising up that not exactly celsius and then the fan speed also rising up related the abnormally temperature.

So why you can’t control the fan speed. Also you can check when you booting up, you can run the ‘intelligent provisioning’ with press F10 key. After intelligent provisioning started, not so long time, the fan speed going back to normal condition.

I doubts IP(Intelligent Provisioning) have some command to control fan speed back to normal condition.

So I think make setup the connect to the SSH or serial to read the server realtime data dumping with run IP then, find which command is slow down the fan speed as normally condition.

Unfortunately, I didn’t familiar with doing this so if you as well known doing this command capturing or you know interested in the person who can easily solve it, please solves the problem instead of me.

There have so many people got a pain of this HP server fan noise issues.

  2. Hi,

I tried to output setting to video 4K/UHD display output using gpu passthrough but it doesn’t output. Maximum resolution displayed as 1920x1200@60Hz.

Are you guys who using UHD/4K display output of VM?

I can’t identify what is problem.

GPU is FirePro W600 and it can output up to 4K resolution each port.

Also cable is mDP to DP V1.2 supported.

And monitor is samsung UHD monitor

So is there have no problem as physically.

Is there have some setting to display out as 4K/UHD on gpu passthrough?

  3. You should have an open to command prompt buried in those recovery menus somewhere.

Something all my W10 clients get  (or used do when I used it more)

    bcdedit /set {current} bootmenupolicy Legacy

Allows F8, otherwise it's ~3 times of failed boot before it will prompt for recovery mode.

I tried to bcdedit commend but it doesn’t work.
It can’t find window hard drive by Virtio.
And I tried several time press F8 but it doesn’t work.

  4. Hi,

I tried to graphic card(FirePro W600) driver installed and then VM doesn’t boot correctly.

So the Windows 10 trying to boot repeatedly.

In nomally, press the key F8 or F4.. etc.

Then it can appeare the select menu before booting so that I can select safe mode and I remove graphic driver but Unraid didn’t appeared boot menu.

    How to solve this problem?

  5. Keep in mind that the motherboard and CPU must support it as well, doing 1 video passthrough is easy, almost any hardware will work, doing 2 is more demanding, typically only server or gaming hardware support it, doing 3 or more requires very specific hardware, best to find someone doing it successfully already and copy their setup exactly.

    Thanks!
As I remembered, it can possible on Vmware ESXi that is capsulate each physical ports to vGPU and then it can use each port for the individual VM display.
Hope it Unraid also have this feature than would be wonderful.

I don't think that will work, as the card doesn't split those 8 ports into separate IOMMU items. I'm not aware of any way currently to split a single display card into multiple KVM OS's, even if the card has multiple ports. The LTT videos all have one card per VM AFAIK.

I remember reading somewhere that it might be possible in the future with different hardware, but I'm not aware of anything running right now.

Thanks for you reply. Now I can see the exactly what I have to do. It need to be more graphic cards.

  7. Hi, Unraid newbie is here.

I watched Linus tech Youtube channel there have one PC to multiple users example video. So I think if I put on the Matrox M9188 graphic card(it is have 8 mini-DP port) to main board, then it could make 8 KVM environment as one PC for use internet browsing and documentation.

So I tried to it as same as what I think but when I looking to IOMMU group of it, there are two kinds of descriptions apeared.

And so I realized it needed BIOS for it.

    At this point, I have questions as below;

    1. There have a BIOS for windows. Is that OK if I uses only Window VM?

    2. The BIOS are separated for Window and Linux?

    3. I have watched when it uses nvidia graphic card on Unraid, it need to modify BIOS file. So how can you know which code can be deleted?

If I can’t use Matrox BIOS file like nVidia cards, I need to modify the file also.

I tried to search the cases as like me but I can’t find it.

I hope it could use as I thought.. :(

If you know helpful video or web site about it, please let me know.

    Thanks.

you might need to have an actual graphics card passed through to the VM for windows installation, and to install drivers but i dont see why it wouldnt work?

what would the benefit be of using a thunderbolt 3 card as apposed to a normal gpu?

    Billington Mark,

I want to make one PC with multiple users(about five people team) small office environment that can connect each tables just one cable as thunderbolt 3.

So that each people can use 4k resolution graphic and USB(Keyboard and mouse and etc..).

But thunderbolt have limit distance 3 meter as copper cable.

So you can see the thunderbolt 3 extension cable over fiber that have limit distance up to 60 meter as below URLs.

    https://www.apple.com/us_smb_83039/shop/product/HE125VC/A/thunderbolt-33-ft10-m-optical-cable-by-corning?fnode=8b&fs=s%3DpriceHL

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderbolt_(interface)

So wants setup multiple thunderbolt 3 PCI-E cards in one PC and than install UNRAID software and connect each thunderbolt 3 port for each users.

Actually, I don't need GPU performance for our office environment.

Do you understand what I mean?

    Is this possible?
