So the supermicro cards are better than the IBMs?
-
-
m1015? i dont see that listed on the list.
-
what version of unRaid are you running?
Running 4.7 or one of the 5.x ?
Matters on which controller cards are supported/work
Whoops
unRAID Server Pro
version: 5.0-beta12a

I have used up the 6 sata ports on my motherboard. Time to expand.
Can someone recommend a card for me?
Things I want:
8 ports
Fast
Current Setup:
Amd CPU
Asus M4A78L-M LE
6 x 2tb WD green drives (ears)
the motherboard has
1 x PCIe x16
1 x PCIe x1
2 x PCI
Not really concerned about price. Would just like a solid controller that is fast.

i figured i might be causing by the massive amounts of data im adding daily.
i rarely ever shutdown but if i do i login via telnet and enter
shutdown now
is that correct?

Finally got my rig up and running without any hitches. Hoping someone can clear up some confusion I had regarding parity checks.
Ive read that its advised to do monthly parity checks.. okay no problem. The issue is that I see unraid doing a parity check everyday (no errors thank god). This usually takes play at around 6am. On the main page it shows:
Last checked on Sun Nov 6 07:53:02 2011 EST, finding 0 errors.
Is this the same parity check that is suggested to do once a month? If so, how can I change it so it only checks once a month. Should also be noted that everyday I'm adding about 40 gigs of data to the unraid server.
UNRAID VERSION: unRAID Server Pro
version: 5.0-beta12a

I like to know, that way if the worst happens - I lose a disk - I either have the TV series or I don't. Otherwise, I have to piece it back together. Similarily, losing some songs from different artists would be a pain to recover from.
Agree but assuming your parity disk doesn't fail at the same time as an array disk, this shouldn't matter right?

Right now I'm using a WDTV LIVE STB. Works really well and no middleman needed. I think it maxes out at about a video bitrate of 20MBPS. My unit is pretty old so I'm sure the new ones dont have this limitation.

Sorry about that Joe.
preclear script version: 1.13
unraid version: 5.0beta12a

the latest one. whichever one was linked in the wiki config page

uh? disk link?
Thanks. I have no clue what I am looking for...
connect to the unraid server via the web gui. click main and just click harddrive (disk1, disk2)
okay guys, i have an issue
im using 5.0beta and just did a new preclear with -A. Everything went fine and i formatted the drive in the web gui. Problem is that its showing the format as:
Partition format: MBR: unaligned
Checked my disk settings and the default partition type is set to:
MBR: 4k-Alligned
Why isn't unraid formating the drives correctly? I should note that both my WD20Ears drives are showing the unaligned partition with no jumpers. How can i fix this?
-
Also, is there a way to look at the AF drives in the current array to make sure that they are indeed formatted correctly with -A and NO jumper or jumper and no -A? I look at the hd link via MyMain and all my disks list sector 63. may have nothing to do with the sector 64, but thought it was worth the ask.
Thanks again for all the help.
curious about this as well

Can the new user make a file? What is the owner and permissions of the created file? Did you give this user permission to access the share in the WebGUI?
Yes, the new user is able to make files. I can still see the share as Videos but its empty. I gave it all permissions as well. I am about to give up and just cut my losses.
-
so i tried what you suggested; created a new user. I'm still having the same problem though. I can see my 'videos' folder but its empty. Any other suggestions from others?

So I've got my server up and running and everything is good except for the FTP use.
Ive googled, searched the forums and I've just about had it. I should note this is my first time using a Linux OS.
Anyway, the FTP Server works in the sense that I can connect to it. Thats about it though.
Once connected I can see my share (VIDEOS). However, when I go in the folder there is nothing there. There should be a few folders but I dont see anything.
Setup: only 1 HD atm (will add several more soon, no parity yet)
only 1 share atm (more to come)
Can someone please tell me or even write up the code i put into 'go.cfg'
write now it reads:
sleep 30
mkdir -p /var/ftproot/VIDEOS
echo 'anon_umask=0022' >> /etc/vsftpd.conf
echo 'local_root=/var/ftproot' >> /etc/vsftpd.conf
mount --bind /mnt/root/VIDEOS /var/ftproot/VIDEOS
losing my mind over this

The split levels do take a little....
Hey thanks, I kind of get it now. I was under the assumption that split level 1 would just span it across all disks.
Is it advisable to set up the shares as I am currently doing? Just have 4 main shares and sub directories within those shares? If I put all my shares on split level 2 (Photos, Music, Video), can I assume all those shares will just span across all the available hard drives in my server?
-
Finally got my rig up and running. Just transferring files over the network now. Just a little confused on split levels.
Lets say I have multiple HDS, with the shares: Photos, Music, Videos
Within those shares i have multiple folders, ex. videos ------> TV SHOWS
------->Movies
etc..
Do i just assign split level 1 for videos?

My server hasn't been built yet, just waiting on a few parts to arrive.
Right now I'm using 4 x 2tb WD20EARS drives in a WHS install. These drives have been Jumpered on pins 7 & 8. From my understanding, UNRAID doesn't need the drives to be jumpered. Okay great. Then I went on to read that if the WD drives have already been jumpered, removing the jumper and using in a new install may cause some issues. Can anyone recommend the steps I should take to install these drives in my new Unraid system?

Ive picked out most of the parts of my new server build. I just can figure out this PSU stuff. I want to be efficient as possible, meaning I dont get a bigger PSU than I need.
Mobo-ASUS M4A78LT-M LE mATX AM3 DDR3 AMD 760G 1PCI-E16 1PCI-E1 2PCI Radeon 3000 Sound GBLAN Motherboard
CPU-AMD Athlon II X2 260 Dual Core Processor AM3 3.2GHZ 2MB L2 Cache 65W 45NM Retail Box
RAM -2Ggig
HD- Will have 5 WD Green drives to start but eventually will go up to 11-12
Generic 12 bay case with 2-3 fans plus cpu fan
The PSU im thinking is

will this be okay?
Keep using green drives and that will be fine.
thank you. Upon further research I see this motherboard has issues with unraid due to the NIC. No biggie though.

For the past week my server has been running kind of funny. At times I can't access the shares, it will pause a lot during video playback and is extremely slow when accessing the WEBGUI. I viewed the log and noticed several errors. I just dont know what any of them mean. Can anyone help me out? I apologize if this is in the wrong section.
