    I have 3 servers and this plug in has been installed on each for years. Everything has worked well. So much so that I frequently forget to check back on them for months. I happened to be doing other things in the tools tab and had an 'oh yeah FIP' moment. So I started just looking around to be sure everything was still running smoothly and found that 2 of my machines were running MD5 and one was running SHA2 and I couldn't for the life of me remember why. I turned on the help setting (consistently amazed at how awesome the help is) and it reminded me of the blake2 option which I think I had passed on originally because it said it was proprietary and I had some aspirations of checking my backups externally or some such that of course I never did.  I did a little quick googling of blake2 and learned that there is now a blake3 that is approx 5x as fast as blake2.  Has any thought been given to adding this as an option?

    I'm looking for a replacement for this IO Crest card https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AZ9T264/

    as it is Marvell based which is no longer recommended.  When I updated the server its in to 6.7 I lost all 4 drives connected to it. Regression to 6.66 brought them back, but I'd prefer to find a long term solution.

     

    The difficulty is I'm using a Silverstone DS380 case:  https://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=452

    so I can't fit a full length card otherwise I'd pick up one of the LSI cards that have been previously recommended.

     

    Does anyone have a recommendation for a card that is short enough to fit in the DS380, can support 4 drives, doesn't run off a Marvell chipset, and is unraid compatible?

    Thanks for the reply tdallen.

     

    CA alerted me that the flash drive was dead/inaccessible.  Trying to access the flash through smb or through the unraid main menu folder icon shows an empty drive. The machine is physically in the attic so I haven't pulled the actual drive to run a chkdsk yet. Unfortunately I hadn't set the backup flash feature in CA before this happened so I don't have a back up of the flash drives contents.  :(    (That error in judgement has been corrected on my other two servers now though!  :)  )

     

    I had read the info at the link provided. My understanding is that I need to copy the previous key to the new drive and then once rebooted under the new drive go to tools>registration and select replace key to get the replacement.

     

    Thanks for the bullet points on process going forward. The 'parity is valid' and 'non-correcting parity check after' is part I thought I had right in my head but needed confirmation on.

     

    I am attaching the diagnostics file I pulled.  You can see in the syslog that the drive started failing around 4am Nov 21st and was caught by CA the following morning at about the same time.

    Flash drive died - Unraid still up

    I've already secured a new flash drive, installed a fresh copy of Unraid and the pro.key that was assigned to dead flash drive on it. I just want to be sure I'm following the correct procedure going forward.

     

    Even though Unraid is still up and I need to shut down to safely remove the old USB drive and install the new one correct?  I can't (or shouldn't) pull the dead USB drive and put in the new one with Unraid still up.

     

    Once I do shut down/install new USB drive/ reboot I would reassign all the drives appropriately (since it's still up I was able to screen shot the drive assignments and dump a diagnostic so I can be confident of assigning them correctly). After that do I go to tools 'new config' or do I just run a parity check (dual parity)?

     

    Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Could the new 'prefer cache' mode added in 6.2rc1 have per share file size and/or extension options added to achieve this goal for those with a large enough cache pool?

     

    Example = User Share 'Movies' could be set to 'prefer cache' for all files <5mb and/or all files with a .jpg, .nfo, .srt extension.

    Thanks, jasonfox - It's great to hear that you've have had such good experiences. My server is in a closet in the basement, so noise isn't a real issue for me, either. Neither is heat, but i have not been running any drives that operate at speeds greater than 5400. My drives run between 64 and 84 degrees F.

     

    Yours are running in the ATTIC? Is it a controlled, conditioned airspace or right out in the rafters?

     

    It's right out in the rafters. We put down flooring, and use it for storage with the servers sitting by the hatch for easy access. We recently put in some temperature controlled fans, but last summer it was 38C+ up there and the drives got up to 50C+. That was warmer that I would like. (Thus the new fans).  ;D

    I ordered two of these (5TB) from Amazon back in April.

    Only 1 digit difference in serial # from those two.  I have 4 more coming from the most recent sale. I'll post what I find from those when they arrive if it anyone will find it useful.
