March 1, 201115 yr Hi, So I have just set up a new server and began to copy new data across (about 2TB over 2 disks copied already) and noticed that i hadnt formatted to 4k Aligned (just went with whatever the default is in 4.7). Since i am at the beginning of this process i figured i might as well just start over. So my question is two fold. I want to reformat the data disks (all WD20EARS) to 4k Aligned - How do i do this? Once done, i want to unassign the parity drive and copy over the files (for speed reasons) - can i reformat the parity drive? I want to do this so it does not think there is an issue with the data drives as i intend to reorder my disks while before i begin re-copying the files over. I guess essentially what i want to do is reset back to "Factory settings" Sorry to be a bit dense, but i am new to this technology.
March 1, 201115 yr You have to use this command for each disk. Look at the devices page and you will see each one listed as sd1, sd2 etc so replace the X with the number for each disk. dd if=/dev/zero count=8 of=/dev/sdX Then, you should be able to start again and hit the format and unRAID will partition the disks again. You can click on each disk on the main web page and see the alignment. Peter
March 1, 201115 yr Author Thanks very much... although i had to reload the flash drive with a clean install of unraid to lose the settings. All good now though
March 1, 201115 yr FYI, on the command line you type initconfig and answer Yes to initialize an array. Peter
