AMD - IOMMU Enabled Hardware

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Thanks for taking the time to read this, I hope its posted in the right place. I am looking at upgrading my system with the hardware below:

CPU - AMD RYZEN 9 3900

Motherboard - X570-A PRO

RAM - Corsair 32GB (16GB x 2) 2666MHz

  • I will be running a windows 7 VM (For FTP file transfers of movies, uTorrent downloads, plus a 24/7 Dropbox upload, I have about 20TB to upload)
  • I will be running a Linux VM, probably Ubuntu (NGINX w/RTMP Module transcoding & uploading +- 4 video streams)
  • A few docker containers (Radarr, Sonarr, Unify Controller)
  • The system will be running headless in a server cabinet, all VM's accessed via VNC only.
  • I need full IOMMU support so I can hotplug USB devices (This is a must & basically the reason I need to see that this hardware will work, there is not much documentation online to see that this system supports it). My current system doesn't support it & is struggling with just the Windows 7 VM, so its time to upgrade.

Are there any downsides to running AMD?

Will I need a GPU for my use cases? I've been doing fine without one so far.

Thanks! If I'e missed anything please do let me know, I don't post often here. Happy computing!
