ASUS P5B-VM DO LGA 775 SATA Connection (or all MB w/SATA)

Featured Replies

I'm using the Asus board as an example since they're used in Lime Technology systems.  Also, I've seen a few topics touch this, but not specifically discuss this. Let me know if I've missed a post like this.

Does each SATA port on motherboards have their own bus?  When I think about it, I would say yes. I'm trying to figure out how to approach an SATA implementation. Shall i go with no onboard SATA and use a PCIe x4/x16 card or just use the onboard?  I would not use PCI since this would defiantly be a bottleneck.  I know that the multiplier in the PCIe stands for the number of buses available (right?). So in theory, if the onboard was all on the same bus, PCIe would perform better.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks.

Dan
