Jumbo frames mobo P5B-VM DO

Featured Replies

Hi,

I built an unRaid server using the P5B-VM DO board. When I try to set jumbo frames using ifconfig eth0 mtu 9000 up, I get the following syslog entry: e1000: eth0: e1000_change_mtu: Jumbo Frames not supported.

Is this really the case that the onboard ethernet doesn't support jumbo frames or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,

Roland

Yes, that is correct. The P5B-VM DO onboard LAN supports only standard-size frames.

when using the p5b-vm do as a windows machine, the drivers let me choose jumbo frames for the onboard nic for up to 7.5k but 9k was not on the list.

According to Asus (http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=571&l4=0&model=1849&modelmenu=2), the P5B-VM DO uses the "Intel® 82566DM PCIe Gigabit LAN controller".

The latest drivers for this controller are available from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Filter_Results.aspx?strOSs=All&strTypes=All&ProductID=2775&OSFullName=All%20Operating%20Systems〈=eng. At least the latest release notes for Linux, XP, and Vista at the time of this writing specifically state that the controller does not support jumbo frames.
